Wigan Warriors came out in a victorious win with a 47-12 score over Castleford
Tigers after coming from 10-12 down at half time.
It was an ecstatic night in the Super League as the League Leaders Shield was up for
grabs. Warriors took the lead in the Super League early into the game and stayed on
top for a while but come towards the final moments in another game, Leeds Rhinos
stayed strong and secured a win over Huddersfield and top spot in the Super League.
Wigan came second.
Head Coach Shaun Wane said, “I’m a massive believer that you get what you
deserve. We’ve not deserved to win it, we’ve come close but the fact is we’ve not got
it. They’re the league leaders, we’ll take it on the chin and use it as motivation
heading into the game next Thursday.”
Wigan took charge of the first half of the game after Warriors main man Dom
Manfredi scored Wigans’ first Try of the night only four minutes into the game to
make it 4-0 to Wigan.
Two minutes after Warriors first Try, Matty Bowen sprinted his way down the field to
the Try line to secure another Try.
Coming towards half time Castleford Tigers played catch up and were now leveled
with Wigan, until Tigers gained another point to put them ahead at half time.
Into the second half it took a while for the game to get running for Warriors as their
lack of confidence began to show. At this point Leeds Rhino were leading the Super
League Leaders Shield.
Just as Warriors confidence was about to plummet Dom Manfredi scored his second
Try of the night, Wigan were back in the game and in the lead for the Shield.
With one man down for the Tigers, Wigan used that to their advantage and Dom
Manfredi pushed himself on the Try line to achieve a hat trick, and straight after
Manfredi was not finished as he added another Try for Wigan.

With the last minutes to go on the clock Wigan were confident, with three Try’s from
Oliver Guildart, George Williams and Joe Burgess, But it was Larne Patrick that gave
Wigan their last try on the 80th minute that gave Warriors a mighty win.
Shaun Wane was impressed how the night went. “It was a fantastic win!” said Wane.
“When you consider the injuries and Gilly (Oliver Gildart) in the First Team it was an
outstanding win, I’m really pleased with that and it has been a good night for the
Club.”
Wigan was triumphant in this game and will now look towards the semi – finals next
week, as they will face Huddersfield Giants at the DW Stadium.
