2. Meet Lori Smith Priest
Lori Smith Priest is a teacher of 5th grade ELA
classes in Mississippi, where she lives with
her husband Slade.
Lori earned her Bachelor of Science in
Elementary Education degree at Southeastern
Louisiana University, at which she attained a
number of academic honors. She has been
teaching elementary students for almost four
years.
Lori finds her work as a teacher incredibly
engaging and inspiring. However, Lori also
finds time to cultivate other passions outside
of school, such as hunting.
3. Hunting Wildlife
Mississippi’s wildlife offers many opportunities
for hunters like Lori. Some of the state’s most
commonly-hunted game include:
• Deer
• Rabbits
• Bobtail Quail
• Turkeys
• Geese
Lori is a frequent hunter of white-tailed deer,
hogs, and turkey.
When hunting deer and hogs, Lori relies
exclusively on a hunting bow. However, she’s
also experienced with firearms and uses a rifle
to hunt turkeys.
4. Women in Hunting
Given that hunting is a male-dominated sport,
Lori is in a minority of hunters. Of the nearly 14
million hunters in the United States, only about
11% are women.
However, the number of female hunters did
increase by 25% over a recent five year period,
suggesting that more women are realizing the
accessibility and excitement of the sport.
Lori has been hunting for just two years, but in
that short time she’s already mastered the bow
& arrow and firearm weapons, and has
successfully hunted a number of animals.
5. Trained Assassins Television
Lori’s passion for hunting has been supported
and furthered by her husband Slade, who is also
an avid hunter.
Slade is a host of the popular TV show Trained
Assassins Television, which is in its 3rd season on
the Sportsmen Channel.
Slade is one of the featured hunters that the
show follows on hunts. The show provides an in-
depth look at the thrill of hunting while also
offering viewers valuable insight into effective
strategies and techniques.
Slade is known for being a highly-skilled bow
hunter.
6. Hunting as a Team
Lori and Slade have found that their shared
interest in hunting has brought them even
closer together as a couple.
Not only can they share their enthusiasm for the
sport and celebrate victories together, it has also
provided many opportunities to spend more
time together and to learn from each other.
Whereas some couples can come to view
hunting as a divisive hobby that requires
significant time apart, Lori and Slade have found
hunting has caused just the opposite. Lori’s own
positive experience quickly becoming skilled in
the sport inspires her to encourage other
women that they can do the same.
7. Personal Fulfillment
Many find that the sport of hunting offers much
more than the opportunity to provide for
oneself.
Becoming skilled at hunting can build character,
instill self-reliance, and develop a deeper
appreciation for nature and wildlife. Hunting can
also be a highly physical activity that promotes a
healthy lifestyle.
Lori has found immense satisfaction and
fulfillment from the sport, and sees how it can
be a positive influence in the lives of others.
