2. Global diversity and inclusion strategy
March 8, 1857
women working in clothing and textile factories
(called 'garment workers') in New York City, in
the United States, staged a protest. They were
fighting against inhumane working conditions
and low wages.
My take (way forward)
It can’t be said better than the theme of the
year, better the balance, better the world as a
world with women inclusion is indeed a better
world
‘’one powerful being of the society is a woman
who is educated and has the power to change
society, she frightens the advocates of taboos
and stereotypes that exist in the society’’

2019 THEME & WHAT WE ARE UP TO AS FAWE DEVOLVES

'celebrating women achievements and identifying country-specific issues that can be
prioritized to address gender inequity and inequality in education’
• As we move to the counties, this strength must be felt and seen by the changes we hope to
bring to our regions.
• As champions of change, not only in education, but also other social matters that directly or
indirectly affect the education of the woman in our women. This includes as in my case,
1) FGM
• Traditionally only girls in their late teen age were circumcised. In Marakwet, they have gone a different
way, in 2015 they started circumcising underage girls, that is girls in baby class or those who are eight
years old and above. Many of the mothers engaged in this are semi-illiterate and are pushing to have
their young daughters circumcised, (The star Jul. 19, 2018)
• Once a boy has undergone circumcision, he is expected to marry. The same applies to girls who have
undergone FGM (what happens to education?)

MY PART
3
(KDHS, 2014) Report shows that only 27.2 per cent of women aged 15 - 49 years were circumcised
between the ages of 10 and 14 while 70.9 percent were circumcised at 15 years and above. Those
circumcised between five and nine years old represent only 1.5 per cent of the total.
1) Opportunity
• To go to school
• Make decisions
1) Early marriages
2) Domestic violence
3) Drug abuse.
