Annual Australian Government Data Summit
Dear Sir/Madam,
Data is a collection of information which imparts us with the ability to make informed decisions in real time to solve problems,
create efficiencies, and invent new products and services. Data decreases the need for guesswork, increases the chances of getting
it right; and how well governments handle big data is critical to its long term success.
Big government data has the potential to essentially change the way public sector works with its citizens to provide better social
and economic outcomes. Publishing, linking, and sharing public data can help make the Australian government create new and
innovative products and services while driving process efficiency.
I look forward to engaging in dialogue and uncovering a host of innovative data analytics practices with you this coming
February 2017.
Kind regards
Loan Kiss

CONFERENCE DAY TWO I TUESDAY 28TH
FEBRUARY 2017
Facilitators:
Helen Ensikat, Senior Analyst, Department of Treasury WA
Keith Moss, Open Data Coodinator and Geospatial Specialist, Landgate WA
How to use your data to its full potential
Government agencies gather vast amounts of data. This data
has great strategic value, but without effective collaborating
and data sharing strategies, much of that value remains
untapped. This two part workshop is designed to help
participants explore approaches to analytics that go beyond
the departmental silo.
Masterclass participants will gain:
• Greater understanding of how agencies are working
together to solve complex analytical problems
• A practical appreciation of how the risks and challenges
of sharing data can be managed
• Insight into the type of problems that tend to attract
quality solutions at hackathon and challenge events
• Strategies for engaging with the open data movement for
creative problem solving
• An introduction to making data more comprehensible and
meaningful for a wider audience
9:00am – 12:00pm
Part 1: Collaborating effectively with closed data
This session introduces collaborative data linkage and analytical models that are
emerging in a number of jurisdictions. Participants will explore opportunities to
foster collaboration in their own jurisdictions, and think about how ethical,
privacy, funding, and data quality challenges can be overcome.
1:00pm – 4:00pm
Part 2: Analysis, creativity, and open data
This session focuses on ways to grow analytical capacity through opening up
public sector data. Participants will identify opportunities in their own
organisations to engage the public in generating new ideas and solutions. The
session will help participants learn how to get the most out of open data events
such as hackathons and challenges, and ways to move solutions from prototype
to practice. It will also look at practical ways to showcase open data in more
accessible and engaging ways, with a focus on visualisation and presentation.

WELCOME LETTER: This was a great forum to collaborate with all levels of government and to identify what others have already done to help reduce duplication and offer insights into new technologies and incentives. – City of Boroondara Thanks for a very good conference - excellent speakers, lots of new information and opportunities to meet new people. – Sydney Water TESTIMONIALS: ADVISORY PANEL: WHO SHOULD ATTEND: T | 61 2 9247 6000 F | 61 2 9247 6333 E | registration@akolade.com.au W | akolade.com.au Produced by:3 3rd Annual Australian Government Data Summit Dear Sir/Madam, Data is a collection of information which imparts us with the ability to make informed decisions in real time to solve problems, create efficiencies, and invent new products and services. Data decreases the need for guesswork, increases the chances of getting it right; and how well governments handle big data is critical to its long term success. Big government data has the potential to essentially change the way public sector works with its citizens to provide better social and economic outcomes. Publishing, linking, and sharing public data can help make the Australian government create new and innovative products and services while driving process efficiency. I look forward to engaging in dialogue and uncovering a host of innovative data analytics practices with you this coming February 2017.
