IDEO OFFICE
IDEO is an innovative consulting firm that takes a human
centered approach to help clients from around the world. The
concept for the new office space is inspired by the global
nature of the company and is based on the seven continents.
The design of the ceiling is an abstract representation of
these continents and is used to define the various tems or
activities that are situated below these forms. The design
of the space is distinct for each area in the way that each
continent is distinct.

DISPLAY FEATURE
DIFFUSER FEATURE
The organic shapes and
curves of the country road
are the main inspirations
for the design of display
fixtures and the ceiling.
Using the product as the
advertising in the space
is another key point to the
design. There are sitting
areas for people to consult
with the professionals. At
the mean time, different
criteria of essential oil
will be displayed through
essential oil diffusers in
several places, where the
central display fixtures
are meant for the use
of essential oil diffusers.
Wood and concrete are
the main elements in the
store, representing the
nature and the road.

NEIGHBOURHOOD
The Neighborhood concept is inspired from the lane-way
neighborhoods that exist in Toronto today, with a modern
twist to it. The three huts act as the “houses” and the display
walls act as the lane-ways of the huts. One lane-way leads
to another, while at the same time being secluded to its own
area. This concept is also strategically designed with one
entrance and one exit; making sure that people experience
every single part of the exhibition, much like actual lane-
ways, where not many people are allowed access to it except
the people of the Neighborhood.

PRESENTATION HUT DESIGN HUT
This hut is designed to allow visitors
to learn more about the different
programs offered at Humber by
communicating and collaborating
with the WHITE BOARD around the
hut walls.
This is strategically placed at that
locationtodrawattentionandattract
visitors to the NEIGHBORHOOD.
The design of red wooden beams is applied
through the entire space to provide visitors
an experience of varied spatial content and
different views projecting out from the hut.
Placing all models from a variety of
design programs in Humber College
provides a DIRECT AND IMMEDIATE
relationship between the spatial
content and the visitors.
Workshop provides visitors
personal experiences through
hands on practice with various
tools. Additionally, a 3D printer is
accommodated in this hut with
other tools to enhance the Humber
experience.
The poster can be showcased on both sides of
the display feature, maximizing the chances for
more students to present their works. The location
of the display feature provides visitors to engage
more with the space by creating multiple directions
to circulate.

POP UP GYM
The Pop-Up Gym is a travelling exhibit that
demonstrates these very ideals while incorporating
eco-friendly efforts, new technology, interior
exploration, and human empowerment.
A human-powered gym relies on the kinetic energy
of gym users to create electric energy. In the pop-
up gym, this man-made energy is used to operate
partition displays of reclaimed wooden eclipses
swaying back and forth and light up the Iinformation
walls which serve to educate visitors on the health
risks of remaining idle and the fresh futures of
gyms. Gym locker samples of heat activated tiles
are also installed within the space and change
colour with a touch. These design features may be
translated into any sort of design in full community
use scale, so long as their purpose to empower
physical activity, efficient energy, eco-friendly
materials, and stimulate sensations is valued to the
core.
The 52’ long truck lowers down 22’ of its exterior wall to provide the extended floors
of the Pop-up Gym. Floors are then supported by stiles and floors space is wider to
accomadate excercise equipment and circulation. Ramps extended from the truck walls
through the middle entryways. All excercise machines, benches, and lockers are mobile.
Human-powered excercise machines must be connected to power generator to fuel partitions.

Be it at home, work, school, or recreational- it is evident that the current generation is made up of a population that is mainly
inside surrounded by wired systems and accustomed to indoor air and bulb lighting. Using accelerometers Statistics Canada had
collected a sample concluding that only 35% of men and women achieve the well-known pedometer target of 10,000 steps a day.
Singling out that this current lifestyle probes a dent in people’s health, proving that the majority of waking hours for both adults
and young people are sedentary.
While we are surely guilty of taking part of such demographic, it is a responsibility of INTERIOR DESIGNERS TO CREATE
SPACES THAT ACCOMODATE AND WILL PROVE BENEFICIAL FOR SOCIETY. In regards to physical activity, interior design
must take the lead in providing spaces that will motivate and stimulate the current generation to get active even while indoors.
In 2011, the proportion of Canadians who were at least moderately active was 53.8% compared with 52.1% in 2010, marking a
slight increase in physical activity, Although 75% of gym membership owners actually only hit the gym for the first month before
terminating visits, perhaps it is now up to interior designers to assist in attracting and activating society’s motive to hit the gym.
Thanks to modern efforts to stimulate sensational reactions from audiences through interactive participation, there lies a variety
of techniques in which GYM INTERIORS CAN BE CONSTRUCTED TO REACTIVATE THE PRESENTLY SEDENTARY
POPULATION. HEAT ACTIVATED TILES may be used to just illustrate a person’s physical expanse. EXERCISE EQUIPMENT
may be attached to generators to transform kinetic energy into electric energy which can fuel all sorts of interior creations.
Individually, we can generate about 50 watts-hours per half hour at a moderate pace, which is just enough to light a single bulb
for an hour, however multiplied by several users; gyms can save on electricity by much of a fraction. Not only does this adaptation
of the standard ELLIPTICAL ADVERTISE green power, it also encourages human power.

ROTATE
The design concept for the over bed table is inspired by a baby mobile
and the rotating motion associated with it. The form of the table was
refined and resulted in a series of nesting surfaces, which create a
sense of whimsy and comfort within the hospital environment. The
rotating surfaces and curvilinear forms offer patient a table that is
easy to use and comfortable to interact with.

Using the product as the advertising in the space is another key point to the design. There are sitting areas for people to consult with the professionals. At the mean time, different criteria of essential oil will be displayed through essential oil diffusers in several places, where the central display fixtures are meant for the use of essential oil diffusers. Wood and concrete are the main elements in the store, representing the nature and the road.
  • 17. 03 NEIGHBOURHOOD The Neighborhood concept is inspired from the lane-way neighborhoods that exist in Toronto today, with a modern twist to it. The three huts act as the “houses” and the display walls act as the lane-ways of the huts. One lane-way leads to another, while at the same time being secluded to its own area. This concept is also strategically designed with one entrance and one exit; making sure that people experience every single part of the exhibition, much like actual lane- ways, where not many people are allowed access to it except the people of the Neighborhood.

A human-powered gym relies on the kinetic energy of gym users to create electric energy. In the pop- up gym, this man-made energy is used to operate partition displays of reclaimed wooden eclipses swaying back and forth and light up the Iinformation walls which serve to educate visitors on the health risks of remaining idle and the fresh futures of gyms. Gym locker samples of heat activated tiles are also installed within the space and change colour with a touch. These design features may be translated into any sort of design in full community use scale, so long as their purpose to empower physical activity, efficient energy, eco-friendly materials, and stimulate sensations is valued to the core.
