2. IDEAS ON SAFER BENGAL FOR WOMEN
CAMPAIGN
IDEA BY: Himanshoo Rawal
It’s my pleasure to contribute some of my ideas towards women safety in West Bengal, a tremendous and colossal
initiative undertaken by WICCI.
• The Powerpoint presentation consists of organized flowchart of ideas followed by brief explanation of my
ideas and implementation.
3. CREATING
AWARENESS
•Need to create safety awareness among women in mostly, rural and semi urban areas as they are the worst affected
•Identify the spots in villages where regular safety awareness drives can take place by volunteers.
NGOs &
Volunteers
•Get in touch with District and National Level NGOs involved in women safety as they will have shared vision and ideas and will be able
to execute them with much more consistency and impactfully than naives.
•Cold emailing, Linkedin, Instagram, Facebook and Twitter handles can help us in reaching out to these NGOs and gather volunteers from
schools and colleges.
•Make small groups and women leaders which will help them communicate and share ideas well with girls and women in villages.
Weekly Classes
and Drives
•Hold classes on weekends in small groups followed by free lunch. It can be done by getting in touch with restaurants and food joints,
who used to dump excess food ; can reach out to our NGO and we can further share that food with those girls who come to our classes.
• Educate girls & women by teaching them self defence, etc. on youtube. So each group in NGO can be provided with 1 tablet each on
which videos can be shown to women and aware them on ongoing issues.
4. Fundings
• No kind of major fundings is required as the drives and campaigns will be volunteers driven.
• Cost on tablets had to be beared by the concerned authorities.
• Socail media campaigns can be carried out accross all platforms in order to get in touch with fundraisers for the
campaign.
Influencial People
of Each District
• In order to make safety drive more impactful, local politicians, government officials & local television channels can
be reached out to for broadcasting purposes and can also be invited to the safety classes where they can motivate
women and girls.
Rewards &
Recognitions
• Small monetary awards, prizes or certificates can be given to the volunteers and women & girls in rural areas in
order to enhance their motivation and work spirit.
• Best performers amongst the group will definitely leave an impact, wanting other girls to actively take part in
drives and campaigns, also referred to as peer marketing strategy.

6. EXPLANATION IN BRIEF POINTS
1. First of all, the basic methodology on which safer Bengal for women campaign should operate could be creating
awareness among the women, especially in rural and semi-urban areas in West Bengal.
2. Secondly, in order to achieve the goal mentioned in first point, we should involve the influential people of each
district accompanied with NGOs, local politicians ( MLAs, MPs etc), District Magistrates, Sub – District Magistrates,
Tehsildars, etc. and especially women leaders amongst the above mentioned categories in order to leave an
impact on the same.
3. Reach out to NGOs at state level, district level and national levels, such as, Robinhood Army, and collaborate with
the volunteers. Make an agile team of 4 to 5 people in each team with women leading the groups as the method
which will give an impact to the campaign.
4. The best way to attract volunteers and NGOs for campaign is through the social media especially by using
Instagram, Twitter, Facebook and Linkedin.
5. Features of social media such as short stories in instagram, linkedin and creating shorts in youtube and facebook,
associating with startups and social entrepreneurs on linkedin will surely attract the volunteers to work for the
state towards women safety.
7. 6. Such initiatives will further lead to foreign and national aids and fundings which could be used for purchasing
mobile phones and tablets, so that it can be distributed among girls in rural areas to create awareness amongst their
surroundings.
7. Villages in rural areas have male dominance, thus in order to educate them also is a vital task to accomplish.
8. Since women, girls, boys and men in rural areas will at first hesitate to communicate with NGOs volunteers, idea
will be to provide them with free food, preferably lunch precede by classes of 1 to 1.5 hours in alternate days in a
week. Food which Restaurants usually dispose off due to surplus, can be retained and then provided to them.
Robinhood army NGO is a great model for this to work.
9. Make them aware with use of smartphones as a sample, educate them on women safety, self defense classes
should be held.
10. Awards and Recognitions are an important part to motivate more and more participants to join these classes and
go ahead.
11. The approximate cost of the same shall range between 2 Lacs to 5 Lacs depending on the current price of poster
making, uniforms for NGOs, tablets and mobile phones for teaching and other essential commodities.
