RAIN WATER HARVESTING AROUND RAMTEK AREA (PERTAINING TO DUDHALA LAKE)

GREEN INITIATIVE
Newton, Massachusetts has undergone several changes in land use and
demographics from its inception in the later 1600s to current times. In its
early days, Newton was a largely agricultural suburb of Boston with relatively
few residents and a few major property owners.
In this gateway project, our team will redesign the open space of Newton
North High School. The concept of the project are simplify the circulation
and adding interests. Since the clients' requirements, they want water feature
in this space. Therefore, in this project, I focused on the waterscape and the
use the sustainable design.

2. Since the water feature, I do the research
ahout the hydrology of Newton.
Since Newton has large area of green
space, which means there is large amount
of underground-water, which can offer the
running water for the future design.
Underground water occurs in two different
zones:unsaturatedzoneandsaturatedzone.
Unsaturated zone cantains both water and
air. Saturated zone is only umderground-
water that is available to supply wells and
springs.
Because the saturated zone occurs by
percolation of water from the land surface
throughtheunsaturatedzone.Unsaturated
zone is very important to ground-water
hyrology.
4. There are three important points in this concept. The first
is to match the exist grading. Because there is a obvious
slpoe of the site, so I designed the steps to match the
elevation changes. The second is the flowing water. The
water of the pond comes from the rainfall and building
water, so it can flow all the time. I design the water fall, it
not only match the grading, but add the energy to te site.
The third is the wall. The material of the walls is glass, so
they are transparent, the sun light can pass through the
wall and also form the contact of view. I also add many
details like the bamboo plant on the water and stepping
stone on the water surface.

The sustainable design is for Newton Noth High
School outdoor space. They want a water feature
in the space. After our research, we dound that
Newton a large amount fo underground-water,
so I want to design a live and running water. A
water channel under the earth, there are two
way to make the flowing water. One is collect
the rainfall, the other is using the water from
education building, and the water will finally
flows to Theater building. This will form a water
circulation. And the water is coming from the
building,sopeoplecancontrolthewatersystem.
