2. Example of Match on Match editing
(Above is a short example of Match on Match editing)
3. What is Match on Match
editing
Match on Match editing is the filmmaking technique in which shots are
put together to make a logical and cohesive sequence. For example a
sequence of someone walking down a corridor, the camera will switch to
different positions whilst still remaining on the action, this makes a
potentially dull scene much more interesting, but must make logical
sense to the sequence as such the following shot must directly follow on
from what was happening in the previous shot, or won’t make sense to
the audience. The two shots must then be cut so that the timing is perfect
and if done accurately results in a fluid and cohesive sequence, making
sense to the audience and continuing the film/sequence.
4. Closer look at Match on Match editing
Above is a short example from a longer sequence that I shot to show match on match editing.
The first shot is a long shot looking at the door watching the character leave the room, The shot
is then cut to the second sequence which is a mid shot of the door handle as the door closes. This
match on match editing results in two shots which when put together create a fluid and logical
sequence
