GENDER DIFFERENCES
The payment one employee earns should not depend on their gender, but on the
performance at their job.
In my opinion, people should get pay the amount of the money they deserve depending
on the quality or quantity of work they do. It is true, that this doesn´t happen in today´s
society. In Mexico, women get pay 15-20% less than men, even in cases where both
genders do the same job.
I say if a woman is strong enough to work at some factory where “manly tasks” are being
carried out, she should get pay the same amount of money a man would get, as a result of
being able to perform the job. Here, the female and male employees of the factory should
be seen as humans, just people who were both able to do the exact same thing.
If such thing happened, society would need to start preparing itself to see situations
where a man’s incoming is lower in comparison with his female-coworker´s payment (and
viceversa) as something normal, and not as discrimination or unfairness.
Why is that? Because equity would take its role in society, employees wouldn’t be seen as
female or male and everyone would get what they earned; which is basically the meaning
of citizens getting justice applied on society. On the other hand, equality would actually
represent unfairness if two people are pay the same amount but didn’t do the same work.
It would appear that gender equality is equal to getting one step closer to a perfect
society; however, it´s the opposite because not all of us do the same amount of work.
In other words, companies need to start thinking that there´s no sense in paying a larger
amount of money to their male employees because gender does not always define what a
person is capable to achieve, physically or intellectually.
