ABSTRACT
Leena Apell: RADIOGRAPHERS PERCEPTIONS’ OF GOOD
PRACTICE IN RADIOGRAPHY AT CLINICAL AUDIT
CONTEXT

The aim of this study was to examine the radiographers operating in the clinical audit as auditors
perceptions of good practice in radiography. The study was described as a new, Radiographer's
perspective on good practice in medical imaging.
The literature review looked at good practice relating to the concepts of pragmatic philosophy, the
characteristics of good practice and the process and evaluation of good practice. Good practice in
assessment and the value of the logic was approached by a clinical audit of the national and
international radiation standards, information management, ethical criteria, and inclusion from the
perspectives of different actors. Clinical radiography work practices were examined mainly in
Finnish theses through. The study was a qualitative approach to phenomenography. The data were
collected through thematic interviews of six radiographers. The study method of analysis was
phenomenography and content analysis triangulation.
Radiographers’ perceptions of good practice were context-dependent and were considered a clinical
audit in general or in individual institutional context, modality context and in the context of the
radiography work. Good practice in radiography was agreed and adapted in collaboration with other
medical imaging professional groups carrying out with good practice in medical imaging. Good
practice in radiography appeared in the radiographers' perception of an evidence-based, radiation
standards, as documented activity as a process in which the actor was a radiographer, and parcel of
clinical radiography work, activity in the patient or part of radiography process, as a guiding
instrument of instruction, recommendation, or the standard and the main idea of patient-centered on
radiological protection. According to radiographers the identification and assessment of good
practice in radiography was challenging because they have not found a generally accepted model of
the structure or the evaluation criteria.
Based on the research good practice in radiography can be understood as a conceptual, patient care
and radiation protection of the optimality-making radiography work activity as a process (Optimal
Practice in Radiography). It recurs cyclically and is utilitarian in Finnish clinical radiography
context.
