1. Victim Services of Peterborough and Northumberland is a confidential community-based services
that provide immediate emotional and practical support to victims of crime and tragedy.
VSPN provides immediate emotional and practical support to victims of crime, tragedy and disaster;
24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
On scene: on consent of the victim, police or other emergency personnel can mobilize teams
of volunteer crisis responders to assist with the immediate emotional and practical needs of
the victim.
Telephone support, in office support, Criminal and Family Court accompaniment,
Assistance with Victim Impact Statements and Criminal Injuries Compensation Board
forms.

Victim Quick Response Program (VQRP)
o VQRP offers immediate assistanceto provide limited financial support to victims of
violent crime that include homicide, serious physical assault, domestic violence,
sexual assault, human trafficking and hate crime.
o VQRP provides financial help to eligible victims for:
Up to $1000 for counselling to reduce the impact of crime in cases where
free counselling services are not available. Up to $250 related transport costs
Funeral Expenses up to $5000 for eligible families of homicide victims
Up to $1500 for Crime Scene Cleanup where there are biological substances
or noxious material and use of a licensed company is required
Up to $1000 for Emergency Home Safety Expenses secure premises for the
immediate safety of victims, such as installation of plywood sheets over
broken windows, re-keying or replacing of locks.
Immediate emergency expenses in certain defined categories.
Volunteering with VSPN is both challenging and rewarding. Volunteers may be called to
scenes such as a family dispute, sexual assault, traffic fatality, suicideor sudden death. Due to
the sensitive nature of the services we provide, candidates undergo an extensive screening
and training process. Volunteers are scheduled during the day, on evenings, weekends and
holidays.
