How you look counts a lot during interviews. Even if you put on a lot of effort in looking
good, how you carry yourself also matters. Your answers to questions may be A+, but your
body language can make a good answer turn into a wrong one. Here’s how you can project
confidence in your next job interview.

Kick off the interview with a firm handshake. Handshakes play a vital role in making
good first impressions. This can demonstrate confidence, and you may even get the chance
to create a strong bond with your interviewer. It only takes a few seconds to make an
impression … and a good handshake won’t let you down.
Sit smart. The way you sit can show if you are bored or interested in the interview. Show
your enthusiasm by sitting straight and leaning forward. Avoid crossing your legs, and
suppress your restless habits (nail biting, leg shaking).
Maintain good eye contact. People will recognize if they can trust you if you maintain
good eye contact. Make eye contact with your interviewer, but not excessively. Too much or
persistent eye contact might make the situation awkward for you and your interviewer.
Nod when needed. Nodding shows your interest in the conversation. It also shows that you
agree and understand what someone is saying. But be conscious when you are
nodding. Overdoing it can make you look ridiculous.
