It was first coined by Kimberlé Crenshaw in 1989 to discuss systematic oppression. Larkin Health System is an integrated healthcare delivery system in South Florida that provides a continuum of care through hospitals, residency programs, and community outreach. It trains over 500 residents across 41 specialties, many focused on addressing healthcare needs in underserved communities.
1. Redefining Inequity
Intersectionality: is a concept often used in critical theories to
describe the ways in which oppressive institutions (racism,
sexism, homophobia, transphobia, ableism, xenophobia,
classism, etc.) are interconnected and cannot be examined
separately from one another. The concept first came from
legal scholar Kimberlé Crenshaw in 1989 and is largely used in
critical theories when discussing systematic oppression.
