Job Overview
Advise management and technical staff on management of emissions, effluents and
waste management and other environmental aspects and implications of latest
environmental developments.
As a recognized expert, provide analysis and assessment and develop solutions to
problems of the highest order of environmental complexity relating to environmental
management.
Act as a Team leader to oversee the conduct of work to resolve specific problems or
investigate to yield environmental recommendations.
Liaise with internal and external personnel in fields of expertise associated with
electricity generation, environmental management and environmental regulation.
Produce environmental reports to increase operational and maintenance efficiencies
or enhance OPG's environmental performance.
Provide representations to government authorities or others on behalf of the
company.
Qualifications
Education:
Requires a knowledge of environmental sciences/environmental engineering to
provide consultative services in designated, specialized environmental fields
associated with the development, design, construction, commissioning, operation
and decommissioning of electricity generating stations.
Requires proficiency in communication skills, both orally and with technical and
managerial writing to develop, prepare and implement management systems,
procedures and comprehensive reports.
This knowledge is considered to be normally acquired through the completion of 4
years of University plus 1 year of further concentrated study.
Experience:
Requires experience to be familiar with the organization and functions of various
groups, sources of information, design practices, and compliance philosophies of
electricity generating stations and environmental regulators.
2. Requires extensive experience within Ontario Power Generation or equivalent to
acquire a full understanding of the problems and regulations encountered in
consideration of environmental effects and mitigation and effective management.
Requires experience with negotiating and resolving complex environmental issues
with government agencies and stakeholders, and the provincial and federal
environmental assessment process.
Requires experience to understand the development and implementation of
standards, methods, procedures, jurisdictional and industrial codes and the setting
of work program objectives.
Requires experience related to the environmental planning and approvals processes
and in particular to OPG’s environmental management system, programs, and
strategies. Requires experience to provide advice and direction in designated
specialized fields.
Requires related experience in the areas of environmental management
performance to identify and resolve environmental issues and recommend
improvements as appropriate.
Requires coordinating involvement of the Generating Units and Functions in
establishing metrics, developing targets, and ensuring appropriate response to
current and emerging environmental issues and championing environmental
performance improvement opportunities.
Requires demonstrated experience in scoping, managing, and executing
environmental study programs.
Requires demonstrated communication and interpersonal skills including team or
committee effectiveness.
A period of over 6 years and up to and including 8 years is considered necessary to
gain this experience.
OPG Security Clearance is considered an asset.
