1. Reflection
During this course I realized more than I knew about disabilities and people struggling mentally
and physically. This course has broadened my perspective of many people coping or suffering
with a physical disability or an invisible disability. Although I suffer from an invisible disability as
anxiety and depression, I became relatable to many others coping in society as well. I took this
course to learn how “we” as people are similar in many ways. I learned that we all have some
sort of struggle in life that equates us as humans.
My favorite part of this course was my service learning experience with the Division of the Blind
and visually impaired. I often wondered how they interact and live daily without sight. I felt
many people take life for granted and complain when being more able than others. I became
moved by visiting and helping the blind. I became inspired and motivated to persevere. My
lesson came from a deep founded desire to learn how other people live without grievances of
their incapability’s. I believe there are no excuses when wanting to strive in life, besides life is a
gift and with the right support it can be very rewarded through empathy towards other.
I chose to post my assignment of my experience of my 15 hours of service learning at the
Division of the blind. I hope anyone who takes this course can learn and take something
positive from this experience as I did.
