Five years providing native English language instruction for five Japanese high schools. Responsible for choosing
curriculum and developing creative programs to increase interest in both the English language and international culture
awareness. Co-advisor to International Language Club.



Selected as one of 50 Tokyo Japanese Exchange Teaching (JET) Programme Orientation Assistants. Chosen from among
3000 current JET participants. As a senior JET Assistant Language Teacher (ALT), assisted with multiple positions including
acting as liaison for incoming participants, staffing registration and help desk, interpreter/tour guide, and ensuring correct
completion of necessary Japanese entrance and insurance forms.



Called upon at last minute to develop and present workshop at mid-year prefectural ALT seminar due to the emergency
withdrawal of original presenter. Coordinated with Japanese Teacher of English (JTE) to complete lecture, materials,
activities, and moderated discussion to fill two hour time slot with effective use of resources.



Restructured, rebranded, and revitalized Japanese Culture Club at Appalachian State University. Transitioning in 6 months
from club Treasurer to club President, developed recruitment oriented projects and networked with Student Affairs
organizations to gain the widest visibility possible among the student body. Efforts resulted in fourfold growth in club
membership within one year.



Organized and funded club member trip to Washington, DC. Raised full funding for the trip via a raffle. Raffle prizes were
obtained through door-to-door solicitation of local businesses. Created forms for participating businesses’ tax purposes,
obtained space for raffle promotional table in student union, and organized club member participation to staff table 12 hours
a day. Obtained necessary school permissions and secured additional university funding for trip. Planned all aspects of trip
including budgets for travel and lodging. Spearheaded scheduling and event selection over three day weekend.


