Goal Setting
EBBS/MBBS
Part 1 – Short, Medium, and Long Term Goals
A goal is a specific, measurable accomplishment that a person would like to achieve in the future. It is a statement of where a person
would like to end up relative to where they are today. Goals help clarify vision, increase motivation, instill purpose, hold us accountable,
and, provide focus.
Goals should be written using the SMART acronym - S = Specific, M = Measurable, A = Attainable, R = Realistic, T = Timely
Apply these seven steps for effective goal setting to all three of your goals. Your three goals should say: 1) What do you want to
achieve after graduation? 2) What do you want to achieve within one year of graduation? 3) What do you want to achieve within five
years of graduation?
Seven Steps for effective goal setting include;
1. Identify your goal by writing it down. (Be sure to use SMART)
2. Set a deadline for the achievement. (Date)
3. List obstacles to overcome in accomplishing your goal.
4. Identify the people or groups needed to reach your goal. (Support needed)
5. List the skills and knowledge required to reach your goal.
6. Develop a plan of action to reach your goal.
7. Write down the benefits of achieving your goal.

Goal Setting
EBBS/MBBS
What do you want to achieve after graduation?
1.My goal is to own and operate my own independent Artist management firm/Booking Agency.
2. The timeframe to this goal is within a month of my graduation. (Roughly February 3, 2020)
3. Some obstacles I will face is: Lack of knowledge, networking, artist’s not wanting to work, venues not cooperating, etc.
4. I will need artists, venue owners, record labels, and producers to reach my goals. The artists I will need in order to have
work, seeing as both artist management and booking agents need artists in order to have work. I will need Venue owners in order
to book shows for my artists. I will need producers in order to help create music for my artists. I will need record labels to put my
artists in the next level of their career and on top of that distribution of music.
5. The skills I need are good personal skills, decision making skills, analytical skills, and networking skills. The knowledge I need
is what is currently trending, knowledge on networking, and knowledge of negotiation.
6. I have already begun my plan of action by starting to do independent artist management and what I need to continue doing
is networking with industry professionals and get a board of mentors.
7. The benefits of achieving this goal is it will open the doors to my next goal and get me hungrier to achieve even more.
What do you want to achieve within one year of graduation?
1. My goal is to start my own brick and mortar record label, and mix in the management firm and booking agency with it.
2. The timeframe for this goal is within a year from graduation. (Roughly February 3, 2021)
3. Some obstacles I will face will be, monetary obstacles, licensing, location decision, and marketing.
4. I will need producers, management, marketers, and receptionists in order to make my goal a reality. I will need producers
to make the music, marketers to help market and distribute the content, receptionists to keep in touch with the world and
management to help ensure everything runs smoothly.
5. The skills I will need to achieve this goal are good management skills, intuition for choosing the right people for the job, and
analytical skills. The knowledge I need is how to properly manage people, how to how to motivate people, and how to make
the workplace an enjoyable place to be.
6. The plan of action I have to reach my goal is to pursue as many networking events as possible while I am in school and to
meet as many industry professionals as possible. I will also gather up a few artists to work with and build their careers to a
good enough level to where I not only gain knowledge and experience, but industry recognition as well.
7.The benefits of achieving this goal will be that not only will one of my biggest achievements be accomplished, but I will be
opening up many more doors of opportunity to possibly build an empire in the future.

What do you want to achieve within five years of graduation?
1. My goal is to implement a music law firm and a travel company within my already record label/management/agency
conglomerate.
2. The timeframe of this goal is within 5 years of graduation, preferably with 3 years. (Roughly anywhere from February 3,
2024 to February 3, 2026)
3. Some obstacles I will face in doing this is learning everything to deal with a law firm, purchasing all the equipment (Buses,
vans, and travel deals for flights) for the travel company, and mixing everything under one roof.
4. I will need lawyers, more management, travel agents, and drivers for this goal to happen. I will need lawyers to open and
run the law firm, more management to run the whole show better, travel agents to set up flights and travel plans, and drivers
for the tour buses/vans for the tours.
5. The skills I will need are good business skills, negotiation skills, and management skills for this venture. The knowledge I will
need is legal knowledge on the music industry, cost knowledge on how much maintaining everything will cost, and leadership
knowledge on how to properly lead and run this company to become an empire.
6. The plan of action I will take to achieve this is learning more about music business law, building more revenue to save to
expand, gathering up the proper people to start the firm and travel company, then opening everything up.
7. The benefits of this will be that not only will this be close to the final result of my dream of this company, but also I will
have something that no one else will have and will allow me to build the empire of this company.

Part 3 – Write your 30-second elevator speech. (i.e. Professionally, where do you want to be after graduation. What is the
most important aspect of yourself that you will want others to know.) For tips on how to write a 30 second elevator speech,
use this link. http://www.forbes.com/sites/dailymuse/2011/11/08/perfect-pitch-how-to-nail-your-elevator-speech/
I am an independent artist manager, and booking agent. I manage some of the best up and coming artists along with
booking shows for said artists. I manage these artists through the experience I have gained along with treating the artists as
family. I book these shows by having a large network I use and by creating relationships. I do this in the way I do, firstly
because it is my passion and I love it, secondly because I intend to break the negative stereotype of the music industry. I do
this for up and coming artists who have the potential to be big! I also do this for any artist who I see that is like minded and has
potential, whether they’ve been in the game for years or are just starting out!
