The document discusses racial oppression and its role in unemployment and poverty among minority families. It argues that the saying "another day, another dollar" is misleading and demeaning because for many minorities, each dollar is essential for basic necessities like food and shelter. Racial oppression through social, systemic and institutional discrimination restricts social mobility for minorities and perpetuates existing social hierarchies that prevent change. The reality for many minorities in America is that time alone will not fix unemployment or poverty issues due to ongoing racial discrimination.

Oppression’s power, another day not dollar.
The notion that another day brings another dollar seems be thrown around a lot in the
United States with people who are in the job industry and market. This phrase bothers me
because there are many individuals who would kill to be working and making money for
themselves or their family to provide an adequate life. It is the issue of perspective that I feel is
demeaning, and the way in which racial oppression plays a huge role in unemployment and low-
income families trying to survive. For many minority families, it is not just another day or dollar
because that dollar could be all one has available for purchasing food, medicine, or provide
adequate shelter and clothing for his or her child. It seems far-fetched and extreme that a dollar
makes such an impact, but with the state of the United states regarding poverty and child poverty
it is substantial.
I chose to use “oppression” and “power” together, because I feel like that embodies the
lives of many racial minorities in America. Power being exerted onto another group because of
their race, which makes up the foundation for racial oppression. The behavior associated with
unfair and unjust actions of others to intentionally persecute and humiliate those of differing
racial identities. Racial oppression restrains people from any hope of social mobility, solely
because of their racial background and color of their skin. This happens every day in America as
individuals of differing races face social, systematic, and institutional oppression. These actions

classes.
I incorporated the word “not” into the sentence because that is the reality in America. The
reality that not everyone has a lifestyle where money is no option and continuing to come in with
each upcoming day. Many think with passing days and that time is supposed to fix the issue of
unemployment and those living in low income families or experiencing poverty. A false belief
that another day is coming, which ensures that money will as well. Unfortunately, this
misconception is present in America regarding those who are discriminated against or facing
hardships in the job industry due to their race.
