By, Jordan StewartHope still exists within the community
Milwaukee is one of the most segregated cities for blacks and whites(and Latinos) in the country, according to the US census bureau.
For those of us who neglect to realize our past privileged childhood and social surroundings, these pictures are reflective of the social paradox that continues to exist today. One must always remember that their social environment continuously shapes the character of that particular individual.
Most children would prefer to be in a wooded area, playing cops and robbers or simply climbing trees without a care in the world. But others must adapt to their surroundings…..
I have heard people joke that when crossing over the bridge to the South Side of Milwaukee, you enter Mexico. This statement is extremely offensive because it degrades the Hispanic community for relying on itself, in a society that cast them as the “other.” Crossing the Boarder?
The Boys and Girls Club is just one of many examples, of how a community can come together for the greater good.
Education and recreational fun are the focal points of this school. But danger does still exist within this community…
This community thrives and functions smoothly because they rely on one another in more ways than one.
We as a community must remember that regardless of race, we are all American.
