The document summarizes an upcoming 5k swim/fundraiser in Tampa Bay to benefit the Navy SEAL Foundation. The event honors Navy SEALs who lost their lives and supports their families. Participants and volunteers want to give back to the families who have sacrificed the most. The swim across Tampa Bay in January is challenging due to cold water temperatures and hazards like sharks, jellyfish, and storms. Funds raised will provide assistance to families of wounded or killed SEALs, including funeral expenses, memorial services, childcare, education costs, and more. The goal is to raise $500,000 for the Navy SEAL Foundation at the 2016 Tampa Bay Frogman Swim event.
2. Our Participants, Volunteers and Sponsors get involved
because they want to give back to the families that have
sacrificed the most in defense of our freedoms.
A 5K swim across Tampa Bay during our coldest month isn’t
easy and isn’t for everyone. Neither is being a Navy SEAL.
Our Tampa Bay event honors those whose lives have been
lost and to support those families that they leave behind.

“They took care of all the funeral arrangements and memorials to honor my husband.
They provided transportation across the country for the families to be able to attend
every ceremony and took care of their living expenses during that time. Once I was
able to face the world, the Foundation helped out with my college expenses and
provided me with the tools to succeed on my own. “….Maria

5. The water in Tampa Bay is dark with strong currents .
Rapidly changing water and weather conditions.
Exposure to lightning, high winds , fog and rough seas.
Bad weather leaves swimmer invisible to boats or safety
personnel.
No quick exit to safety .
Tampa Bay waters in January subject to extremely cold water
temperatures which present the possibility of hypothermia .
Tampa Bay is known for its large population of hammerhead and
bull sharks.
Other potential sea life hazards include jelly fish and stingrays.
Open water forces the swimmer to rely on his/her self for safety
and survival …pool walls are not within an arm’s reach when
facing dehydration, cramps or exhaustion in deep water.
