15 Top Tourist Attractions in Jaisalmer
Jaisalmer Fort
As the "Golden Fort of Rajasthan," the Jaisalmer Fort has a well-deserved reputation. The Rajput
people's king, Raja Jaisal, constructed it in the year 1156 AD. One of the largest forts in the
entire world, according to popular opinion. The fort has an almost magical aspect thanks to the
golden and yellow sandstone combination.
When viewed from a distance at night, the fort's 99 turrets appear to be an illusion that emerges
from the desert's sand dunes. It is one of the must-see attractions in Jaisalmer. The fort is a
magnificent illustration of the magnificence of Rajasthani craftsmanship. Nearby activities to the
Jaisalmer Fort include street shopping and dining at one of the many eateries in the vicinity.
Bada Bagh
Bada Bagh means "Huge Garden" in English. Its construction began at the beginning of the 16th
century, during the reign of Maharawal Jait Singh. His son Lunakaran concluded the
construction project his father had begun after his death. The garden functioned as a memorial
for the occasion and was used for the cremations of the nobility and their family.
This Jaisalmer tourist attraction offers visitors a spectacular view. The area is extremely isolated.
If you visit the area around sunrise and sunset, you will undoubtedly witness breathtaking
moments that you cannot not but capture on camera.
Patwon-Ki-Haveli
Patwon-Ki-Haveli is located right in the centre of the main metropolis. A well-known trader by
the name of Guman Chand and his kids built it. This large structure has five stories and five
spacious suites, each of which has ornate furnishings and decorations. Both the ornately
decorated walls and the expansive passageways that run throughout the structure serve as
excellent examples of the predominate art style. The entire construction of the building was done
with yellow-colored sandstone.
The splendor of this tourist destination in Jaisalmer, as well as its unique architecture,
significantly contributes to the value of the city's cultural character. The preservation and
conversion of only one of the five palaces into a museum. The third haveli of the complex houses
the artefacts created by local artists in earlier times.
Sam Sand Dunes
To truly experience what it's like to be in the desert, you must take part in a desert safari. The
Sam Sand Dunes are the ideal starting point for a Desert Safari journey. On the camelback safari,
which will take you across the desert's peaks and valleys, you will have a great time and have the
opportunity to witness the spectacular desert sunset.
Also available is the chance to travel on a Jeep safari. The planning and preparation for the desert
festival will take place in the months of February and March. At this time of year, traditional
dances, camel races, and other events are hosted all across this region, and if you happen to be in
the area at the time, you would be remiss to miss any of them.
Visitors to this location in Jaisalmer may take part in camel riding, camel safaris, desert camps,
parasailing, and a tour to the nearby Desert National Park and Sanctuary, among other activities.
Thar Heritage Museum
In the centre of the city's bazaar is the Thar Heritage Museum. The person who founded this
museum is known by the name Laxmi Narayan Khatri. You can learn more about the history of
the renowned Thar Desert, as well as its culture, artwork, and craftsmanship, at this museum.
Horses and unique ornaments from the ship that travelled over the desert can be found at this
Jaisalmer tourist attraction.
A variety of artefacts, including antique literature, weapons, and coins from Jaisalmer, may be
found in this museum. Visiting the neighboring Silk Route Art Gallery and watching a puppet
show are two of the activities offered at the Thar Heritage Museum.
Gadisar Lake
The fort and Gadisar Lake are separated by 1 km. It was initially constructed by Raja Rawal
Jaisal, the region's first king, and Maharawal Garsi renovated it in 1367 AD. This reservoir
provided all the water needed by the inhabitants of the desert metropolis. You may explore a
number of Jaisalmer attractions along the lake's shoreline, including temples and chattris. The
artistically carved yellow sandstone doorway allows visitors to admire the breathtaking
panorama.
In the vicinity of Gadisar Lake, you may go on a picnic, take a boat ride on the lake, visit the
historic Tilon Ki Pol gate, and go to the nearby Folklore Museum.
Nathmal-ki-Haveli
Nathmal Ki Haveli was built on the orders of the prime minister of the period by two Muslim
brothers who worked in the jewellery industry rather than stone carving. The brothers started
working on different sides of the building, which finally led to left and right corners that were
similar but not identical. This haveli is renowned for both its beautiful interiors, which feature
mural decorations and modern conveniences, and the exquisite carvings that grace its exterior.
The Nathmal Ki Haveli, which blends elements of Rajputana and Islamic architectural traditions,
is justified of its status as one of Jaisalmer's most spectacular havelis.
Jain Temples
The history of the Jain temples, which can be located inside the Jaisalmer Fort and date back to
the 12th century, may be connected to a string of shrines honoring Jain Tirthankaras. The
specific traditional architecture present in these temples bearing their name was inspired by the
Dilwara temple on Mount Abu. These temples, which are made entirely of yellow sandstone, are
a sight to behold due to their beautiful carvings and the seamless manner they connect to one
another.
Salim Singh Ki Haveli
Due to its unique and aesthetically pleasing architecture, the Salim Singh Ki Haveli stands out
among the other Havelis in Jaisalmer. Salim Singh, who was a minister at the time, built it. The
king stopped Singh from making it as tall as the fort, notwithstanding Singh's plans. This
Jaisalmer tourist attraction has 38 balconies total, each with a distinctive architectural design,
and a ceiling in the shape of a peacock. It is simple to picture how magnificent the photos taken
here would be. This haveli provides an interesting window into the past.
Vyas Chhatri
The Vyas Chhatri is a structure made up of a collection of golden sandstones that was created in
the manner of Rajasthani workmanship. It was built as a tribute to Sage Vyasa, who was in
charge of gathering the 300,000 verses that make up the Mahabharata epic. On the structure, his
tomb can be found to the north. It is frequently referred to as Jaisalmer's sunset perspective since
it offers a bird's-eye view of the city. Due to its location inside the Bada Bagh, it is one of
Jaisalmer's most iconic landmarks.
It is housed inside a Brahmin Cemetery on the town's northwest edge, which serves as the final
resting place for kings and is under the control of the Royal House of Jaisalmer. The sculptures
and the imposing dome-shaped pavilions are a stunning sight to see. The elegant structure, which
is built of sandstone and has a golden color, is awe-inspiring to witness. It contains elegant
carvings that were lovingly carved onto it. In fact, Vyas Chhatri is a stunning site that is perfect
for travelers who want to view the desert sunset while surrounded by golden sandstone
structures.
Jaisalmer War Museum
In the defence facility, the Jaisalmer War Museum was built as a tribute to the servicemen and
women who participated in the "Combat of Longewala" in 1971. It honors the bravery and
contribution made by Indian Army soldiers. It was formally opened on August 24, 2015, and the
general public could use it the next day.
Inside the JWM, the museum's common name, there are two notable exhibition rooms, an audio-
visual theatre, and a gift shop. The names of people who have received the Param Vir Chakra
and the Maha Vir Chakra for their bravery are also listed on a wall of memorial in the building.
The museum includes a range of trophies and vintage pieces of military gear in addition to
battleships, guns, and other military equipment.
Along with murals showing the weapons used in the combat, there are paintings showing
soldiers who died during the battle. An individual who received the Maha Vir Chakra, Major
Kuldip Singh Chandpuri, gives a full account of the individuals who took part in the battle in the
video about the conflict that is displayed in the audio-visual chamber. On the Jaisalmer-Jodhpur
highway, about two hours from Jaisalmer, is a monument that pays honor to the Indian Army.
Tazia Tower and Badal Palace
The beautiful Badal Palace complex has the five-story Tazia Tower, which is vital to the city of
Jaisalmer. The Tazia tower is an exact replica of the graves of many prominent Muslim figures.
The gravestone's exterior is decorated with ornate adornments made of thermocol, oak, and a
variety of colored papers that depict fine ancient craftsmanship.
Near the Amar Sagar Gate is the Badal Palace, which resembles a cloud from a distance. One
can see the Tazia Tower emerging from the cloud's nucleus. This tower in no way resembles the
usual Rajputana architecture found in Rajasthan. As a symbol of their religion, the Muslim
craftsmen who worked on these homes gave them the shape of a Tazia. These structures were
previously residences for the Rajasthani royal dynasty.
It is a five-story tower with a different story to tell on each level. The structure has an Islamic
flavor throughout, with each of the patterns being skillfully chiselled, and each floor has a
balcony that is renowned for its architecture. The Royal Funders of the Badal Palace, a group of
buildings that are recognizable by the sculptures that cover their walls, received the Tazia-shaped
framework of the balconies as a gift from Muslim artists. This palace is now home to the Royal
Family. The structure is a remarkable illustration of traditional Muslim architecture because it
mixes the luxury of the era with the elaborate weaving work created by Muslim artisans.
Amar Sagar Lake
Near the Amar Singh Palace, the Amar Sagar Lake offers a calm retreat. The stronghold that
Maharawal Akhai Singh constructed in the 17th century and is located on the outskirts of the
town of Jaisalmer is close by. In addition to the chhatris, the palace complex features a number
of wells and ponds and is organized like a series of chambers. Amar Singh was well-known for
being a devoted follower of Lord Shiva. As a result, in the 18th century, a revered Shiva temple
made of marble was constructed. The five-story haveli, which consists of apartments, is well
recognized for the magnificent murals that grace its walls.
A building that resembles a pavilion and a flight of stairs leading to the lake may be found next
to the palace. On the other side of the lake is a beautifully carved Jain temple that takes great
delight in the fact that Jaisalmer stones were used in the construction of its stunning structure. A
noteworthy aspect of the lake is its collection of chiselled stone figureheads, who are thought to
function as royal guardians.
Mandir Palace
The Mandir Palace in Jaisalmer, which was built more than 200 years ago, is one of the most
lavish and well-known historical hotels in the city. The hotel boasts a medieval-inspired setting
but yet offers some modern conveniences. Excellent stone carvings, graceful stairs, and towers
adorn it, and they are all outstanding specimens of handiwork in its purest form.
The Jaisalmer Mandir Palace was built by the Maharaja Jawahir Singh and features a sizable
collection of stones that have been expertly etched, yellow stone chambers, imposing columns,
and an observing balcony. There is no comparison to the view of the city and its surroundings
from the palace. The hotel also has a number of recreational activities, such as a pool area,
indoor games, a home museum, and a collection of antique silverware. Delicious Rajasthani
cuisine is served in the Mandir Palace Luxury Resort kitchen.
Pokhran Fort
The Balagarh Fort, also known as the Pokhran Fort, was built in the 14th century by the Marwar
Thakur Rao Maldeo. Pokhran is the name of a region that is encircled by arid, gravelly, and salty
mountains on all sides. Despite having merely a small red sandstone shrine, the fort is dedicated
to the goddess Durga. This Jaisalmer tourist attraction is situated in a far-off region of the Thar
Desert.
To stop elephant stampedes the terrifying spikes that stick out from the towering fort's huge
entrance. It is the site of a museum that displays the armour, ceramics, small sculptures, and
clothing worn by ancient royals. Every traveler who goes through is warmly welcomed by the
polite residents of Pokhran, who reside in the town that Pokhran shelters. Pokhran's beauty can
be found in a number of places, such as a safari ride over the dunes, a community that provides
food for migratory birds, and the local weavers and sculptors who participate in the markets.

  • 8. Nathmal-ki-Haveli Nathmal Ki Haveli was built on the orders of the prime minister of the period by two Muslim brothers who worked in the jewellery industry rather than stone carving. The brothers started working on different sides of the building, which finally led to left and right corners that were similar but not identical. This haveli is renowned for both its beautiful interiors, which feature mural decorations and modern conveniences, and the exquisite carvings that grace its exterior. The Nathmal Ki Haveli, which blends elements of Rajputana and Islamic architectural traditions, is justified of its status as one of Jaisalmer's most spectacular havelis.
  • 9. Jain Temples The history of the Jain temples, which can be located inside the Jaisalmer Fort and date back to the 12th century, may be connected to a string of shrines honoring Jain Tirthankaras. The specific traditional architecture present in these temples bearing their name was inspired by the Dilwara temple on Mount Abu. These temples, which are made entirely of yellow sandstone, are a sight to behold due to their beautiful carvings and the seamless manner they connect to one another. Salim Singh Ki Haveli
  • 10. Due to its unique and aesthetically pleasing architecture, the Salim Singh Ki Haveli stands out among the other Havelis in Jaisalmer. Salim Singh, who was a minister at the time, built it. The king stopped Singh from making it as tall as the fort, notwithstanding Singh's plans. This Jaisalmer tourist attraction has 38 balconies total, each with a distinctive architectural design, and a ceiling in the shape of a peacock. It is simple to picture how magnificent the photos taken here would be. This haveli provides an interesting window into the past. Vyas Chhatri The Vyas Chhatri is a structure made up of a collection of golden sandstones that was created in the manner of Rajasthani workmanship. It was built as a tribute to Sage Vyasa, who was in charge of gathering the 300,000 verses that make up the Mahabharata epic. On the structure, his tomb can be found to the north. It is frequently referred to as Jaisalmer's sunset perspective since it offers a bird's-eye view of the city. Due to its location inside the Bada Bagh, it is one of Jaisalmer's most iconic landmarks. It is housed inside a Brahmin Cemetery on the town's northwest edge, which serves as the final resting place for kings and is under the control of the Royal House of Jaisalmer. The sculptures and the imposing dome-shaped pavilions are a stunning sight to see. The elegant structure, which is built of sandstone and has a golden color, is awe-inspiring to witness. It contains elegant carvings that were lovingly carved onto it. In fact, Vyas Chhatri is a stunning site that is perfect for travelers who want to view the desert sunset while surrounded by golden sandstone structures.
  • 11. Jaisalmer War Museum In the defence facility, the Jaisalmer War Museum was built as a tribute to the servicemen and women who participated in the "Combat of Longewala" in 1971. It honors the bravery and contribution made by Indian Army soldiers. It was formally opened on August 24, 2015, and the general public could use it the next day. Inside the JWM, the museum's common name, there are two notable exhibition rooms, an audio- visual theatre, and a gift shop. The names of people who have received the Param Vir Chakra and the Maha Vir Chakra for their bravery are also listed on a wall of memorial in the building. The museum includes a range of trophies and vintage pieces of military gear in addition to battleships, guns, and other military equipment. Along with murals showing the weapons used in the combat, there are paintings showing soldiers who died during the battle. An individual who received the Maha Vir Chakra, Major Kuldip Singh Chandpuri, gives a full account of the individuals who took part in the battle in the video about the conflict that is displayed in the audio-visual chamber. On the Jaisalmer-Jodhpur highway, about two hours from Jaisalmer, is a monument that pays honor to the Indian Army.
  • 12. Tazia Tower and Badal Palace The beautiful Badal Palace complex has the five-story Tazia Tower, which is vital to the city of Jaisalmer. The Tazia tower is an exact replica of the graves of many prominent Muslim figures. The gravestone's exterior is decorated with ornate adornments made of thermocol, oak, and a variety of colored papers that depict fine ancient craftsmanship. Near the Amar Sagar Gate is the Badal Palace, which resembles a cloud from a distance. One can see the Tazia Tower emerging from the cloud's nucleus. This tower in no way resembles the usual Rajputana architecture found in Rajasthan. As a symbol of their religion, the Muslim craftsmen who worked on these homes gave them the shape of a Tazia. These structures were previously residences for the Rajasthani royal dynasty. It is a five-story tower with a different story to tell on each level. The structure has an Islamic flavor throughout, with each of the patterns being skillfully chiselled, and each floor has a balcony that is renowned for its architecture. The Royal Funders of the Badal Palace, a group of buildings that are recognizable by the sculptures that cover their walls, received the Tazia-shaped framework of the balconies as a gift from Muslim artists. This palace is now home to the Royal Family. The structure is a remarkable illustration of traditional Muslim architecture because it mixes the luxury of the era with the elaborate weaving work created by Muslim artisans.
  • 13. Amar Sagar Lake Near the Amar Singh Palace, the Amar Sagar Lake offers a calm retreat. The stronghold that Maharawal Akhai Singh constructed in the 17th century and is located on the outskirts of the town of Jaisalmer is close by. In addition to the chhatris, the palace complex features a number of wells and ponds and is organized like a series of chambers. Amar Singh was well-known for being a devoted follower of Lord Shiva. As a result, in the 18th century, a revered Shiva temple made of marble was constructed. The five-story haveli, which consists of apartments, is well recognized for the magnificent murals that grace its walls. A building that resembles a pavilion and a flight of stairs leading to the lake may be found next to the palace. On the other side of the lake is a beautifully carved Jain temple that takes great delight in the fact that Jaisalmer stones were used in the construction of its stunning structure. A noteworthy aspect of the lake is its collection of chiselled stone figureheads, who are thought to function as royal guardians.
  • 14. Mandir Palace The Mandir Palace in Jaisalmer, which was built more than 200 years ago, is one of the most lavish and well-known historical hotels in the city. The hotel boasts a medieval-inspired setting but yet offers some modern conveniences. Excellent stone carvings, graceful stairs, and towers adorn it, and they are all outstanding specimens of handiwork in its purest form. The Jaisalmer Mandir Palace was built by the Maharaja Jawahir Singh and features a sizable collection of stones that have been expertly etched, yellow stone chambers, imposing columns, and an observing balcony. There is no comparison to the view of the city and its surroundings from the palace. The hotel also has a number of recreational activities, such as a pool area, indoor games, a home museum, and a collection of antique silverware. Delicious Rajasthani cuisine is served in the Mandir Palace Luxury Resort kitchen.
  • 15. Pokhran Fort The Balagarh Fort, also known as the Pokhran Fort, was built in the 14th century by the Marwar Thakur Rao Maldeo. Pokhran is the name of a region that is encircled by arid, gravelly, and salty mountains on all sides. Despite having merely a small red sandstone shrine, the fort is dedicated to the goddess Durga. This Jaisalmer tourist attraction is situated in a far-off region of the Thar Desert. To stop elephant stampedes the terrifying spikes that stick out from the towering fort's huge entrance. It is the site of a museum that displays the armour, ceramics, small sculptures, and clothing worn by ancient royals. Every traveler who goes through is warmly welcomed by the polite residents of Pokhran, who reside in the town that Pokhran shelters. Pokhran's beauty can be found in a number of places, such as a safari ride over the dunes, a community that provides food for migratory birds, and the local weavers and sculptors who participate in the markets.
