The Kumaon area of Uttarakhand is home to the beautiful hill town of Nainital. In this post, we'll

Travel to Nainital
By air: Pantnagar Airport, Pantnagar, is the closest domestic airport to Nainital and is 55 km
away from the city, taking around an hour to travel there. This airport has excellent connections
to Mumbai and New Delhi. Nainital is 283 kilometers from the airport in Dehradun. Nainital is
248 kilometers from Delhi International Airport.
By Train: Kathgodam Railway Station, the closest rail hub, is 23 kilometers from Nainital. From
major cities like New Delhi, Kolkata, Agra, and Lucknow, there are numerous direct trains that
travel every day to Kathgodam.
By road: Major cities in northern India are well-connected to Nainital by motor able highways.

Nainital Lake
A natural freshwater lake called Naini or Nainital is located in the town's centre. One of the most
well-known lakes in the Kumaon region is this Half Moon Lake (or "eye"). It is the perfect
location for picnics, boating, and nighttime walks. The Nainital Lake is a beautiful location
encircled by seven distinct peaks. The northern region of the lake is known as Mallital, and the
southern region is known as Tallital. Take a boat cruise to admire the towering mountains,
particularly the beautiful mountain sunsets.
Lake access is available from 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM.
The distance between Nainital's Tallital Bus Stand and Naini Lake is only one kilometer. It is 25
kilometers away from the Kathgodam Railway Station.
Tiffin Top
The summit of the Ayarpatta Hill Tiffin Top, also known as Dorothy's Seat, is 2292 meters
above sea level and a must-see tourist destination in Nainital. It offers a 360-degree view of the
Nainital Lake District. This area is surrounded by the Kumaon Hills, which add to its calm. Cher,
oak, and deodar trees surround the stunning Tiffin Top. For everyone who likes adventure, the
Tiffin Top walk is a must. You can either take a pony for hire or walk the 4 km to the location
from the main city.
The Tallital Bus Stand is the closest bus stop if you're travelling by car. Tiffin Top is 6
kilometers from Nainital.
Pangot and Kilbury Bird Sanctuary
The Pangot and Kilbury sanctuary is located in the Nainital reserve forest, which is home to
additional species besides oak, pine, and rhododendron. Both birds and mammals can be found
in this bird sanctuary. The lammergeier, Himalayan griffon, blue-winged minla, spotted and
slaty-backed forktail, white-throated laughing thrushes, brown wood owl, little pied flycatcher,
Himalayan bulbul, Altai accentor, and dollarbird are the most frequently seen birds among the
580 species. Numerous creatures, including the leopard, Himalayan palm egrets, yellow-throated
Himalayan marten, ghoral, barking deer, and sambar, can be found at the Pangot and Kilbury
Bird Sanctuary.
The distance between Pangot and Nainital City is roughly 14 kilometers, and visitors can travel
there by bus or automobile. It has excellent road connections. It is 40 kilometers away from
Nainital Railway Station.
Naina Peak
One of Nainital's most stunning locations is Naina Peak, the highest hilltop. After the 1962 Indo-
Chinese conflict, the peak's original name, China Peak, was changed to Naina Peak. Naina Peak
is a well-liked location for trekking because of its high elevation and luxuriant green forest trail.
On a pony or a horse, you can also ride to the peak. You get a bright perspective of nature, a
wonderful city, and Naini Lake as you descend the mountains.
A lovely forest of rhododendrons, deodars, and cypresses may be found on this summit, which
rises to a height of 2611 meters above sea level and is about 6 kilometers from the route to Naina
Peak. Views of the surroundings are enticing from Naina Peak. You get a full 360-degree picture
of the Himalayan peaks covered in snow.
The Tallital Bus Stand and the Mallital sector of the Mall Road are both located about 17 km and
10 km, respectively, from the Naina Peak.
Eco Cave Gardens
One of the top tourist destinations in Nainital is the network of connected caves and hanging
gardens known as Eco Cave Gardens. There are tunnels connecting six underground caverns.
The beauty is enhanced by a musical fountain with sound and visual elements. To preserve the
environment's authenticity, antique petroleum lights are used to illuminate the garden. The six
caverns, which include a bat, tiger, flying fox, panther, squirrel, and porcupine, are shaped like
these creatures. The walkways next to the caves are lined with hanging gardens. The adventure is
enhanced by some of the caverns' small passageways. The local government looks after these
natural caves.
The Eco Cave Garden located in the Sukhatal region. The distance to the Nainital bus stop is just
about 3 kilometers. From the bus stop, you can take a taxi to the cave garden.

Pt. GB. Pant High Altitude Zoo
One of the top tourist destinations in Nainital for those who love nature is the zoo. This zoo,
which is the only one in Uttarakhand, is also known as the Bharat Ratna Pt. Govind Ballabh Pant
High Altitude Zoo. The height of the Govind Ballabh Pant High Altitude Zoo is 2100 meters
above sea level. The only other one of its kind is in Darjeeling, making this one unique. It is
home to creatures including the Siberian tiger, serao, goat, antelope, and snow leopard that can
only survive at very high altitudes. The animals are housed at the altitude of their natural habitat.
With a total area of 4.6 hectares, the Nainital Zoo (11 acres). It also has a variety of species,
including red junglefowl, white peafowl, blossom-headed parakeets, hill partridges, rose-ringed
parakeets, and golden pheasants.
On the Sher Ka Danda hilltop, 1.8 kilometers from the Nainital bus stop, is where you'll find the
zoo.
Entry fees are Rs. 50 per adult (13 to 60 years old) and Rs. 20 each child (between 5 and 12
years)
Time: Everyday, from 10:30 AM to 4:30 AM, excluding Monday.
Gurney House
Jim Corbett, a hunter, conservationist, and passionate storyteller, once called Gurney House, an
old, historic structure built in 1881, home. A trip back in time is experienced when visiting
Gurney House. Gurney House still has a colonial vibe and has the allure of Victorian living even
seven decades after Corbett left. Although it is now a private residence (called Dalmia's Gurney
after the owner), the residents still offer free tours of this historic building to anyone who enjoys
Corbett. It still keeps some of Corbett's furnishings and belongings.
Just 4 miles separate the Tallital bus stop from the Gurney House.

Snow View Point
The Snow Point View in Nainital is one of the most popular tourist destinations for viewing the
Himalayan peaks. The best views of the vast Himalayan ranges can be had by setting out early in
the morning. The peaks descend into brown or green plains after being blanketed in white snow
at the summit. At Snow View Point, you can see Nanda Kot, Trishul, and Nanda Devi, all of
which are covered in snow. Additionally, it provides stunning views of the town and Nainital
Lake. Although the Snow View Point is easily accessible by road, the most effective way to get
there is by taking the aerial ropeway from Mallital. On the peak is a tiny temple housing statues
of Rama, Sita, Lakshman, Hanuman, and other gods. Another must-see location is the Tibetan
monastery of the Gelukpa order, Gadhan Kunkyop Ling Gompa, which is close to Snow View
Point.
The Kathgodam Railway Station, 35 kilometers from Mallital Mall Road, is the railroad station
closest to Snow View Point. From the train station, take a bus or a private taxi to Mallital. Hire a
taxi or take the ropeway to get there.
Entry: Admission to Snow View Point is free. However, getting there will cost money (via cab or
ropeway).
Time: Snow View Point is open from 10:30 AM to 5:00 PM every day of the week except
Saturday.
St. John Church
Located in the Nainital forest, Saint John is a stunning church and a popular tourist destination.
When Britain was in power, the church was established in 1844. It is situated next to the
Uttarakhand high court at the northernmost point of Nainital. The church is built in the typical
European style and is surrounded by the wilderness and seclusion of the mountains. Its
architecture features stunning stained-glass windows in a neo-Gothic design. It is a serene place
of worship that is set atop a lovely hill that is lined with pine and deodar trees.
The Nainital Mall Road is only 2 km from St. John in the Wilderness Church.
No entrance fee is required to enter the church.
Visits are welcome any day of the week. The hours are 7:00 AM to 6:30 PM from Monday
through Saturday and 9:00 AM to 6:30 PM on Sunday.
Naina Devi Temple
One of the most venerated religious sites in Uttarakhand and one of the most visited tourist
attractions in Nainital is the Naina Devi Temple, which is located on the shores of Naini Lake.
One of India's 51 Shakti Peethas is the Naina Devi Temple. The mythological story states that
when Lord Vishnu divided Goddess Sati's corpse into 51 pieces, her eyes (Nayan) landed at this
location, giving the temple its name. The mythology inspired the naming of the entire town
(Nainital), the lake (Naini Lake), and the Naini temple. There is an old peepal tree on the temple
grounds, and farther down is an image of Lord Hanuman who is bestowing blessings.
Additionally, there are statues of Mata Kali Devi and Lord Ganesha in the inner sanctuary. The
vast temple complex is thought to have been built in the 15th century. After being devastated by
invaders, the temple underwent renovation and reconstruction in the late 19th century.
About 3 kilometers from the downtown bus stop, Naina Devi Temple is conveniently reachable
by rickshaw or on foot.
Naina Devi Temple is open from six in the morning until ten at night.
Activities in Nainital

Boating
