We all dance. Be it the unfathomable range of grace-
fulness on stage, the intimacy of embracing and mov-
ing in unison, the joyful thrill of running to meet a long
unseen loved one… Rehearsed or improvised, mov-
ing to the music or out of pure emotion, it evokes ad-
miration for the professional dancer’s form and craft or
invites you to take part – in salsa evenings, milongas,
clubs or festivals – it is a natural reaction of the body
to an energising beat. It can be so diverse and it is so
common – sometimes in the ways we don’t realise.
Showstudio’s “Dynamic Blooms” takes us to a magi-
cal world created by clothing in motion and Benjamin
Millepied’s (the choreographer of Aronofsky’s Black
Swan and the director of Paris Opera) video “Ancient
Passions replayed” for the New York clothing label
Maiyet depicts an embrace, an escape, an argu-
ment between two people, expressed by their body
language in slow motion. In both we see the dance
of the body, dance of the garments and dance be-
tween the body and the garment. Movement is a flow
– a sequence of frames – frozen moments that only
deconstructed can be observed separately. Dance is
so common and so diverse.
