Time and Reason
Behind the Whisky
Travelling back well over 20 years, just before the historical
moment when the Berlin Wall was torn down, a famous old
distillery in Prádlo which had been producing high-quality
pot-still spirits for many years, created a single malt whisky of
unmatched taste and unparalleled quality.
During the Cold War in the Soviet Union, where the preferred
drink was vodka, a few high ranking compatriots had a taste
for something different, better – perhaps even extraordinary.
It was as clear as day, they wanted whisky, but importing it
from the West was seemingly impossible.
Resourceful as they were, they made a plan that led them to a
small, old and somewhat noisy and crude distillery in Prádlo
that dated back to 1928. Back then, this was the only distillery
in the entire of Czechoslovakia.

3. Even though the barley was 100% Czech and the water used in
production was from the Bohemia region, the biggest struggle
was the peat that originated from Czech region. At the time,
it was almost impossible to find a peat of the desired quality.
Therefore, a Scottish peat was imported. Nowadays though, a
fine quality Czech peat is being used and the final product is
impeccable.
Through many trials and failures, they learned their trade.
They were persistent and defeat was not an option, hence we
now have Hammer Head - whisky aged in 100% Czech oak
casks.
In late 1989, the Wall was brought down and shamefully, the
whisky fell into oblivion. Forsaken and forgotten, it was left
to rest in the cellars in its uniquely hand-made casks for 20
years.

4. About the brand
Although the whisky remained intact and well kept, it
was only recently that the true quality of the whisky was
rediscovered. Hammer Head, once a lost gem, will never
again be hidden from whisky lovers around the world,
as now we have decided to share with you what was
once reserved only for a chosen few.
Stock Spirits purchased the legendary distillery in
Prádlo without even knowing the whisky existed. They
discovered the wooden casks and after savouring the
historical aroma, they learned about the true quality
of this single malt whisky of incomparable taste and
unparalleled quality.
Finally, the whisky was produced and bottled under
the name Hammer Head, thus honouring the old Mill, a
place where a historic way of making whisky had started
once again.

5. Bohemia Whisky
Born in the Bohemia region, Hammer Head is a 25 year
old single malt whisky that tells a most colourful story.
With its captivating and rich history, it’s still believed to
be the only Bohemian single malt whisky in the world.
When creating Hammer Head 25, we use only Czech
barley and the crisp, clean water from the Bohemia
region, to ensure your palate experiences the long
aftertaste that Hammer Head reveals. This is the main

6. reason our casks are made out of 100% Czech oak wood
– and now this unique single malt is only a sip away.
Interestingly, Prádlo, where this distillery is located, and
the surrounding areas of Prádlo were known for gold
and the people who searched for it in the rivers. They
used to drink the water and wash their clothes in these
rivers, which is why the place was named after a Czech
synonym for laundry/linen – Prádlo.

8. The rarest of
all dreams
Our exceptional casks are made from oak wood that
comes from the Morava, Hluboká and Lužické regions,
which quickly impart their unique attributes to the malt
distillate.
Hammer Head ages in oak, because it’s the only wood
that prevents seepage, at the same time as allowing the
whisky to breathe, due to its ideal cellular structure.
To enhance the taste of the liquid, charring is used to
change the nature of the oak barrels. Charred barrels
have many wonderful effects on the alcohol that result
in the smoother, mellower flavour that Hammer Head
offers. We assure you that great commitment and passion
is brought to this product to achieve what no one has yet
achieved in the Czech Republic – to create a true single
malt whisky following the great Scottish rules.
It takes 25 years of slow ageing in oak casks for Hammer
Head whisky to mature perfectly and as the greatest
reward, we’ve created a rounded, balanced and easy to
drink whisky for all of you whisky lovers. What was once the
rarest of all dreams, is now available for you to taste.

9. Pure provenance
While crafting Hammer Head, we use crystal clear water
rich in iron and minerals from a Bohemian region, which
positively influences the final liquid taste and overall
experience in a way that only true whisky lovers will note.
80% of the taste comes from our oak barrels and our
famous malt is smoked using 50% oak wood shavings
and 50% peat, both originating from the Czech Republic.
Hammer Head’s smokiness comes directly from the malt,
thus making every cask unique in taste.

11. Hand Crafted
Every single bottle of Hammer Head is produced manually.
We pride ourselves in taking special care of every single bottle.
This is the art of crafting, so when it comes to filling, applying
labels or simply
Vlosing the bottle, we have our own, unique ways of doing it.
This is an art and we enjoy every single second of it. All tasks
are equally important and carefully done with one goal – for
every bottle to be made unique, slightly different but always
perfect.

12. Honouring the past
Back in 1989,Vaclav Sitner was our Master Distiller. At that
same time, Kristina Demelova worked alongside Vaclav to
learn about his craftsmanship and expertise. Today, Kristina
Demelova has proudly taken on the role of Master Distiller,
always controlling the quality and the expression of Ham-
mer Head whilst passionately guarding the knowledge of
Czech single malt whisky production. That same passion runs
through the family, as her father was the first Master Distiller
for Hammer Head and the person who passed the knowledge
to Vaclav.

13. Awards
Hammer Head Vintage 1989, Czech single malt whisky,
has received several awards including three gold stars
at both the 2014 and 2013 International Taste & Quality
Institute. In 2011, it won the Masters Award at the 2011
Whiskys of the World Masters.

14. Tasting experience
Colour: Pale gold.
Nose: AAn initial touch of wonderful dryness will
eventually turn into sweetness. A hint of liquorice and
the strong fruit aroma of pear, as well as some distinctive
herbal and floral notes of jasmine, will bring your palate
to life. A splash of water triggers the wooden spices and
the warm scent of leather along with a touch of vanilla
and nut.
Mouth: Medium body with hints of barley and a little
citrus and jasmine. Mixing with water brings to the fore
spice and honey flavours, drawing out a touch of vanilla
along with a note of roasted coffee in the background.
Finish: Long and dry with a mixture of spices (nutmeg)
and a little herb (jasmine).
