FoodTruck Wednesday
The nice weather is back again, and with it comes Food
Truck Wednesdays! Each Wednesday from 11:30 a.m.-
1:30 p.m. a food truck will be located on the southeast
side of 1224 Kinnear Road. Staff are already enjoying
the sunshine and taking advantage of eating outside.
TheTatoheads, Phillybuster, Short North Deli and
Smok’N Cantina food trucks kicked off the first month.
The upcoming schedule is:
6/3/15 Timmy’s Meltdown
6/10/15 A Cut Above
6/17/15 Phillybuster
6/24/15 Burrito Bus
7/1/15 Short North Bagel Deli
7/8/15 Sticky Finger Foods
7/15/15 Alphabetical Soups &
Salads
OETC Conference
OH-TECH members made their appearance at the Ohio
EducationalTechnology Conference this year.
More than 4,000 educational technology professionals
came to explore the forefront of learning innovation in
Ohio. OH-TECH was there to promote OhioLINK and
OSC’s summer programs, SI andYWSI.
Crosswalk Installation
After reports of several near misses with the CABS
buses, OH-TECH Facilities Manager James Rader
contacted OSU’sTransportation &Traffic Department
about the need for a crosswalk in front of the north
entrance to 1224 Kinnear. A brief meeting at their
Kenny Road facilities resulted in quick action to install
paint and signage to help slow traffic down for folks
crossing Carmack to access the building.
We hope you’ve noticed a decrease in traffic speed and
more attention to pedestrians crossing, but please be
careful not to hit the sign. We’re told it costs several
hundred dollars to replace, and that, unfortunately,
OSU has to replace them more often than they should!
Future Renovations at 1224
What’s Missing??
The Shared Infrastructure team is on schedule to
have conference room technology enhancements
completed in June. A few additonal features may be
phased in over the summer.
Kinnear Road Center to SOCC
The Shared Infrastructure team is in the process of
migrating OH-TECH servers, storage and other systems
from the Ohio State’s Kinnear Road data center to
the State of Ohio Computing Center. All equipment is
scheduled to be removed from KRC by June 30.

and activities of the staff at the OhioTechnology Consortium and its member
organizations: OSC, OARnet, OhioLINK and eStudent Services.
OSC
Ruby Supercomputer
Ohio Board of Regents Chancellor John Carey and
other dignitaries visited the State of Ohio Computing
Center in April to unveil OSC’s newest supercomputer
platform — the HP/Intel Xeon Phi Ruby Cluster.
The Ruby Cluster is an important step in promoting
continued collaboration and efficiency around the
state, and its availability will increase the quality of
education and research. The cluster’s total peak
performance is estimated to reach 144TeraFLOPS, or
144 trillion calculations per second. The newest
supercomputer was named after Ruby Dee, an actress,
playwright, screenwriter, activist, poet and journalist,
who was born in Cleveland.
Advanced Research Computing
In March David Hudak, KarenTomko and Brian
Guilfoos attended the Advanced Research Computing
on Campus workshop at Clemson University. The
workshop was for leaders involved in operating and
supporting campus-shared research computing.
DidYou Know?
Two researchers — one atThe Ohio State University
and another at the University of Minnesota — are
using the Ohio Supercomputer Center for their
research to help with disaster relief and longer-term
stabilization planning efforts in the earthquake stricken
country of Nepal. OSC is providing the compute
power for the researchers to produce high-resolution,
3-D digital surface maps.
OARnet
Congratulations to the NOC staffers, who celebrated
their one-year anniversary of operating 24/7!
Rio Grande Digital Passport
OARnet engineers and members of the campus IT
staff at the University of Rio Grande and Rio Grande
Community College recently completed an “out-of-a
box” installation of a Federated Identity Management
system on the southeast Ohio campus. The installation
provides Rio Grande students, faculty and staff with a
home-id/password digital passport that can be used
throughout the world on networks that are enabled
with eduroam and InCommons technology.The
project also provided OARnet engineers with a test
case of a one-day, pre-configured installation package
that can be offered to other campuses across the
state.
University of Cincinnati Visit
Staff from OSC and OARnet visited the University
of Cincinnati in January to discuss workforce
development initiatives, the use of modeling and
simulation resources, HPC resources and network
connectivity available for research. Alan Chalker
also gave a presentation of the industrial enagement
program, AweSim.
eStudent Services
Campus Workshop
eStudent Services held its annual eTutoring Campus
Coordinator Workshop. The event took place at the
Fawcett Center on May 21. Each year eTutoring meets
with participating schools for the day to discuss
campus issues surrounding eTutoring, best practices
and upcoming academic year plans.
OhioLINK
Pelotonia
OhioLINK is raising money for cancer research by
competing in this year’s Pelotonia bike tour. In
addition to supporting a great cause, this is part of a
multi-year marketing initiative to build a Peloton with
riders from every OhioLINK member library. The goal?
Increase awareness of OhioLINK and how it helps
disseminate published research results — from Ohio
State cancer research and beyond.
Executive Director Gwen Evans will be leading the
way on the 25-mile route with Greg Boyd and Julia
Hathaway. Meghan Frazer and JoshuaTucker are
supporting the event as virtual riders, andTasha
Bryant-Willis is a member volunteer.
ORCID
This winter OhioLINK launched the first statewide
adoption of ORCID, a unique researcher identifier, to
the ElectronicTheses and Dissertations Center.The
service provides researchers a way to distinguish their
work from others. Emily Flynn and Meghan Frazer
from OhioLINK worked with SI members Jeff Smith,
Mike Lietz, Brian Powell, Neha Arcot, James Russell
and Jamie Clark to make ORCID available on the ETD
Center.
ETD Conference
Emily Flynn from OhioLINK and Mike Lietz, Jeff
Smith and James Russell from SI attended the
Ohio ElectronicThesis and Dissertation Association
conference on March 6. Emily provided a year-in-
review presentation on the 2014 statistics of the
ETD Center, which surpassed 52,000 ETDs this fall.
The OETDA meets annually to share best practices,
develop productive ETD programs and learn more
about ETD initiatives.

Doug Line
PositionTitle: Manager of ServiceNow
Hometown: Galion, Ohio
When did you start at OARnet? March 2010
What are your job responsibilities?
I manage and implement a staff that supports the
business services of all the OH-TECH members. We
make sure the ServiceNow application is working and
being utilized correctly. It’s a lot of coordination and
gluing of pieces of OH-TECH together.
Where did you work before coming to OARnet?
I worked as a program designer and developer at the
Ohio Resource Center for almost four years before
coming to OARnet. I also have served in the U.S.
Army Reserves for 30 years.
What are some of your other interests?
I’m the director of my church’s Upward Basketball
Sports Ministry in Hilliard, Ohio. I’ve been running it
for about seven years, and we’ve had about 400 kids
go through the program each year. That pretty much
takes up all of my evening hours from August until
March.
My wife and I also have had our own cupcake food
truck for about four years called Sweet! The Mobile
Cupcakery. We do a lot of staff appreciation events,
birthdays, weddings and parties.Things start to
pick up at the end of April, and we are busy until
November.
Which cupcake is your favorite?
Not to be cliché, but it’s Buckeye. It’s a chocolate fudge
cake with a peanut butter frosting and a Reese’s mini
nestled on top of the icing.
Kudos
OSC
Douglas Johnson was approved for co-PI status
for the purpose of developing and submitting
research proposals in his area of expertise.
