4. INTRODUCTION
Air powered cars runs on compressed air
instead of gasoline.
This car is powered by a two cylinder
compressed engine.
This engine can run either on compressed
air alone or act as an IC engine.
Within the next two years, you could see
the first air-powered vehicle motoring
through your town.
Benefits of using this engine, like as no
combustion takes place inside the cylinder,
working temperature of engine is very close
to ambient temperature.

5. HISTORY
■ (2008 – 2009)
TATA and MDI (Motor Development International) Developes the TATA oneCAT
concept Automobile Car.
■ (2007 – 2012)
TATA signed an agreement with MDI Co. of France, to develop air car.
Called MINICAT In india At the Range of 300km.

6. TYEPS OF ENERGY MODES
■ TYPES OF ENERGY MODES -
1. Single Energy Mode :
It uses only compressed air. The maximum speed is 50 km/h.
2. Dual Energy Mode:
It uses compress air as well as fossil fuel. At speed over 50 km/h, the engine will
switch to fuel mode.

7. TYPES OF COMPONENTS USED IN
VEHICLE
■ THE COMPRESSED AIR TANK
• It is Carbon Fiber tank
• It Holds 6.0 litres of Armpressed Air upto 300 bar’s
• The tanks weight is around 35 to 40 kg

8. ■ THE BODY –
• The car body is built with fibre and injected foam.
• It has two main advantages: cost and weight.
• It does not cut like steel.
• It does not rust.

9. ■ THE AIR FILTER
• Before compression, the air must be filtered to get rid of any
impurities that could damage the engine; carbon filters are used to
eliminate dirt, dust, humidity and other particles
• MDI cars produce clean air, which is cold on exit and harmless for
humans.

10. ■ THE CHASSIS –
•MDI has put together highly-resistant, yet light, chassis, aluminium rods glued
together
• Good shock – resistant.

11. Advantages
1. Smooth working of the engine due to very less wear and tear of the components, So
lesser maintenance cost
2. There is no possibility of knocking.
3. No need of cooling systems and spark plugs or complex fuel injection system
4. No use of expensive fossil fuels as the free air is compressed and taken to use.
5. Low Cost when refilling.

12. Disadvantages
1. Low Speed Of Vehicle
2. Limited storage capacities of the compressed air tank.
3. A tank containing 300 bar Pressured compressed air is risky and dangerous.
4. Low boot space, as compressed air car, will be having a compressed air tank.
5. Low or No Compressed air Power station.

13. Applications
A) buses
• MDI makes MultiCATs vehicle that can be used as buses or trucks. RATPhas also
already expressed an interest in the compressed-air pollution-free bus.
B) Locomotives
• Compressed air locomotives have been historically used as mining locomotives
and in various areas.
C) Two wheeler Vehicles
D) Four wheeler vehicles

14. Conclusion
1. Air powered cars is a realization of latest technology in automobile field. The air car
is a clean, easy to drive, light weight and high performance car.
2. It eliminates the use of non-renewable fuels like gasoline, diesel petrol etc, and
Thereby preventing pollution caused by millions of automobiles all over the world and
step to a healthier environment.
