What is an Interview?
 A process in which a potential employee is evaluated by an employer for prospective employment in their
company, organization or firm. During this process, the employer hopes to determine whether or not the applicant
is suitable for the job.
 Interview : one-one conversation with one person acting in the role of the interviewer & the other in the role of
the interviewee.
Types of Interviews
 While it coming to the interview mode, we have different types to know. They are,
1. Face to Face Interviews,
2. Behavioural Interviews,
3. Telephonic Interviews,
4. Panel/Group Interviews,
5. Stress Interviews,
6. Group Discussion.
 A company may choose the mode of interview according to their need/availability of human resources department.
Types of Interviews
Face to Face Interviews
 This is a traditional interview and the most common
one.
 In this the interviewer interviews the interviewee face
to face.
 This type of interview builds the rapport between the
interviewee and interviewer & shows how the
qualification meets the organization requirements.
Types of Interviews
Behavioural Interviews
 A common type of job interview in the modern
workplace is the Behavioural Interview or also called as
Competency-Based Interview.
 This type of interview is based on the notion that a job
candidate’s previous behaviours are the best indicators
of future performance.
 In behavioural interviews, the interviewer asks
candidates to recall specific instances where they were
faced with a set of circumstances and how they reacted
Types of Interviews
Telephonic Interviews
 Telephone Interviews take place if a recruiter wishes to
dwindle down the number of prospective candidates
before deciding on a shortlist for face-to-face interview.
 They also take place if a job applicant is a significant
distance away from the premises of the hiring company
such as abroad or in another state.
Types of Interviews
Panel/Group Interviews
 A panel/group interview is an interview where a
number of interviewers pose questions to an
interviewee & assess his suitability for the role basis
his/her job knowledge, confidence, stress management
skills etc.
 A panel/group interview hereby eliminates the
possibility of a biased/prejudiced decision in
selecting/eliminating the candidate.
Types of Interviews
Stress Interviews
 The interview attempts to find how applicants would
respond to aggressive, embarrassing, rude and insulting
questions.
 A stress interview allows interviewers to see how well
you work under pressure
Types of Interviews
Group Discussion
 Several candidates are present at this type of interview.
You will be asked to interact with each other by usually
a group discussion.
 A group discussion is a group of individuals with similar
interests who gather either formally or informally to
bring up ideas, solve problems or give comments.
 Discussing in groups of 2 or more individuals is an
excellent way to develop better social and emotional
skills in a structured and controlled environment.
