INTRODUCTION
Background
The main reason for conducting this research was triggered by an investigation of the
Global Business Management program structure, we realized students are given numerous
assignments from all subject area which demanded a high volume of research. And since a great
majority of the students enrolled in the program are international students with different
backgrounds (Academic and Professional), it has come to our attention we do not have the same
experience in using the library services. Therefore we decided to conduct a research to find out the
level of utilization of the Humber Library at the Lakeshore campus among the international
students in the Global Business Management Program.
Initially the group’s assumptions were ambiguous and based on conjecture needing
support. However after basing facts on the reference materials identified through a secondary
research process, the ambiguity was slightly diminished and the resources brought up facts that
supporting previous conjecture. Furthermore, a basis for surveying activities were brought unto
hindsight supporting our intended actions.
Problem Question and Objective
The purpose of the study is to identify the level of utilization of the Humber Library at the
Lakeshore Campus by the Global Business Management 2nd Semester international students. So
in order to better analyze the problem we selected three sub-objectives:
 To identify the frequency of use of the Humber Library by the Global Business
Management 2nd Semester international students
 To identify their familiarity with the resources offered by the library and
 To determine their level of satisfaction with the service provide by the library
Literature Review
We carried out extensive literature review on our research problem to comprehend if we could
find any similar academic papers that would reveal findings of the research under other
conditions or similar conditions as ours. Kimberly Miller (2014) highlighted such a report in
a book titled: “Patterns of undergraduates’ use of scholarly databases in a large research
Running Head: LEVEL OF UTILZATION OF HUMBER LIBRARY Page 5
university” by a librarian from Towson, Maryland, United States of America. The entire
research was highly similar to what is to be attempted by our group with minor differences
such as population size and the purpose of undergoing the research. Omotunde oluwatobi,
Maria Ehioghae, Aluko-Arowolo TK and Ayoola Olusegun Onasote (2014), also performed a
study on utilization of library resources for effective research output among post graduate
students in Adventist University of Africa this research material was a study performed by
students from Babcock University, Nigeria where the purpose and general methods of
research conducted by the group was also highly applicable to our research. Conclusions
were drawn as Amy Catalano (2013)main purpose of research was to draw out patterns of
information seeking behaviour of graduate students her report revealed that graduate students
begin their research on the internet much like any other information seeker, consult their
faculty advisors before other people, and use libraries in diverse ways depending on the
discipline studied. Additionally differences were noted between international and home
students, and doctoral and master’s students. Thus is our intention to identify if this is so
among our international students in our Global Business Management Program.
ResearchMethods
ResearchDesign
The main purpose of our research was to address a particular question. There a descriptive type
of research was ideal for finding more information to clear up the uncertainty that clouded our
minds on this matter. Our target audience was the international students at Humber College
registered in the Global Business Management Program to be investigated only on this one
occasion the cross sectional design was most appropriate for this research. The main source of
our data was derived from a primary source in the form of a survey specifically a
questionnaire. It was structured with mostly structured questions and minimal open ended type.
One of the main reason for choosing this type of survey was that it’s cost effective and we were
better able to distribution, capture and control the survey and data was collected in a timely
matter with its use.
Running Head: LEVEL OF UTILZATION OF HUMBER LIBRARY Page 6
Sample Design
The design we adapted was a non-probability census population type of design. The respondents
were not randomly selected instead we selected our population based on the fact that we had a
subjective idea in mind, therefore we targeted a specific group. Which was the international
students in the Global Business Management Program. We utilized the purposive approach of the
non-probability type, being that we had a particular plan in mind for our research. The population
was seventy eight students (78). This size will allow us to effectively generalize any conclusion
towards the overall population as this will be a population census outcome.
Fieldwork and Data Collection
To demonstrate the fieldwork each member of the group which is a total of five (5) individuals
each received equal amount of questionnaires to be distributed to sample. With a total of 78
questionnaires each member was given approximately fifteen (15) questionnaires to be handed to
respondents and collected immediately after completing it in just about ten (10) minutes. This
method worked effectively as each member was given two (2) days in which to distribute and
collect data based on our timesheet set in our proposal. We encountered minimal issues with this
method of fieldwork and data collection technique.

the other hand 17% indicated that they were dissatisfied and 4% felt very dissatisfied with the
services offered.
An analysis of the table above shows that most of the respondents were within a “satisfied” level
with ninety three responses to service, availability and access to materials. Most students felt
satisfied however the numbers fell by 33 and 28% respectively and when asked about the
availability and research material and access to material.
Limitations
Some of the limitations we encountered while conducting our research were, issuing the survey
instead of sitting down with students while completing questionnaire. Results showed that they
did not answer some of the questions properly by following the instructions. The other issue that
a few students refused to take part of our survey that was purely voluntary by nature, had some
impact of meeting our census total. This had some impact to our research as it resulted in a decrease
in the total number from being a total of 78 students to being 65students.Throughout the general
questionnaire questions some respondents did not respond to all the satisfaction and ranking
questions thus we were not able to capture a 100% feedback on those items.
Conclusions/Discussion
Our general conclusion on finding out the level of utilization by the Humber library at the lakeshore
campus by Global Business Management 2nd semester international students is that a significant amount
of the students do actually use the library at least one to two times a week to carry out their assignments
and researches for their various courses in the program. Surprisingly a greater portions of the users were
found to be males ranging mostly under the age of 25years. Both gender showed a high rate of using both
the Physical and Online resources. For the physical facility the book was the resource ranked as the top
resource type used among the students while for the online resources the eResource came out on top as the
most used online resource which students used once or twice throughout the week. The overall level of
satisfaction among both services indicated that majority of the international students were satisfied with the
level of accessibility of materials, the availability of resources and the general services provided by the
Humber College Library at the Lakeshore campus.
Recommendations
The overall feedback revealed that the international students in the Global Business Management
Program were radically using the Humber Library services regularly both the physical facility and
the online services, it’s no doubt that this was because a significant number of students were
Running Head: LEVEL OF UTILZATION OF HUMBER LIBRARY Page 14
satisfied with the level of service and resources they were being offered. However, we would
recommend that they provide faster working computers in the physical facility to aid them in
carrying out research more efficiently and proposed increase in the number of copies of required
text for courses would be appreciated due to the high cost for text books. Therefore, we encourage
the Humber Library at the Lakeshore campus continue to offer good quality service and try to
work on the areas of concern among the students.

  • 4. Running Head: LEVEL OF UTILZATION OF HUMBER LIBRARY Page 4 INTRODUCTION Background The main reason for conducting this research was triggered by an investigation of the Global Business Management program structure, we realized students are given numerous assignments from all subject area which demanded a high volume of research. And since a great majority of the students enrolled in the program are international students with different backgrounds (Academic and Professional), it has come to our attention we do not have the same experience in using the library services. Therefore we decided to conduct a research to find out the level of utilization of the Humber Library at the Lakeshore campus among the international students in the Global Business Management Program. Initially the group’s assumptions were ambiguous and based on conjecture needing support. However after basing facts on the reference materials identified through a secondary research process, the ambiguity was slightly diminished and the resources brought up facts that supporting previous conjecture. Furthermore, a basis for surveying activities were brought unto hindsight supporting our intended actions. Problem Question and Objective The purpose of the study is to identify the level of utilization of the Humber Library at the Lakeshore Campus by the Global Business Management 2nd Semester international students. So in order to better analyze the problem we selected three sub-objectives:  To identify the frequency of use of the Humber Library by the Global Business Management 2nd Semester international students  To identify their familiarity with the resources offered by the library and  To determine their level of satisfaction with the service provide by the library Literature Review We carried out extensive literature review on our research problem to comprehend if we could find any similar academic papers that would reveal findings of the research under other conditions or similar conditions as ours. Kimberly Miller (2014) highlighted such a report in a book titled: “Patterns of undergraduates’ use of scholarly databases in a large research
  • 5. Running Head: LEVEL OF UTILZATION OF HUMBER LIBRARY Page 5 university” by a librarian from Towson, Maryland, United States of America. The entire research was highly similar to what is to be attempted by our group with minor differences such as population size and the purpose of undergoing the research. Omotunde oluwatobi, Maria Ehioghae, Aluko-Arowolo TK and Ayoola Olusegun Onasote (2014), also performed a study on utilization of library resources for effective research output among post graduate students in Adventist University of Africa this research material was a study performed by students from Babcock University, Nigeria where the purpose and general methods of research conducted by the group was also highly applicable to our research. Conclusions were drawn as Amy Catalano (2013)main purpose of research was to draw out patterns of information seeking behaviour of graduate students her report revealed that graduate students begin their research on the internet much like any other information seeker, consult their faculty advisors before other people, and use libraries in diverse ways depending on the discipline studied. Additionally differences were noted between international and home students, and doctoral and master’s students. Thus is our intention to identify if this is so among our international students in our Global Business Management Program. ResearchMethods ResearchDesign The main purpose of our research was to address a particular question. There a descriptive type of research was ideal for finding more information to clear up the uncertainty that clouded our minds on this matter. Our target audience was the international students at Humber College registered in the Global Business Management Program to be investigated only on this one occasion the cross sectional design was most appropriate for this research. The main source of our data was derived from a primary source in the form of a survey specifically a questionnaire. It was structured with mostly structured questions and minimal open ended type. One of the main reason for choosing this type of survey was that it’s cost effective and we were better able to distribution, capture and control the survey and data was collected in a timely matter with its use.
  • 6. Running Head: LEVEL OF UTILZATION OF HUMBER LIBRARY Page 6 Sample Design The design we adapted was a non-probability census population type of design. The respondents were not randomly selected instead we selected our population based on the fact that we had a subjective idea in mind, therefore we targeted a specific group. Which was the international students in the Global Business Management Program. We utilized the purposive approach of the non-probability type, being that we had a particular plan in mind for our research. The population was seventy eight students (78). This size will allow us to effectively generalize any conclusion towards the overall population as this will be a population census outcome. Fieldwork and Data Collection To demonstrate the fieldwork each member of the group which is a total of five (5) individuals each received equal amount of questionnaires to be distributed to sample. With a total of 78 questionnaires each member was given approximately fifteen (15) questionnaires to be handed to respondents and collected immediately after completing it in just about ten (10) minutes. This method worked effectively as each member was given two (2) days in which to distribute and collect data based on our timesheet set in our proposal. We encountered minimal issues with this method of fieldwork and data collection technique. Analysis Discussion (INSERT) It was a descriptive analyst …

  • 13. Running Head: LEVEL OF UTILZATION OF HUMBER LIBRARY Page 13 the other hand 17% indicated that they were dissatisfied and 4% felt very dissatisfied with the services offered. An analysis of the table above shows that most of the respondents were within a “satisfied” level with ninety three responses to service, availability and access to materials. Most students felt satisfied however the numbers fell by 33 and 28% respectively and when asked about the availability and research material and access to material. Limitations Some of the limitations we encountered while conducting our research were, issuing the survey instead of sitting down with students while completing questionnaire. Results showed that they did not answer some of the questions properly by following the instructions. The other issue that a few students refused to take part of our survey that was purely voluntary by nature, had some impact of meeting our census total. This had some impact to our research as it resulted in a decrease in the total number from being a total of 78 students to being 65students.Throughout the general questionnaire questions some respondents did not respond to all the satisfaction and ranking questions thus we were not able to capture a 100% feedback on those items. Conclusions/Discussion Our general conclusion on finding out the level of utilization by the Humber library at the lakeshore campus by Global Business Management 2nd semester international students is that a significant amount of the students do actually use the library at least one to two times a week to carry out their assignments and researches for their various courses in the program. Surprisingly a greater portions of the users were found to be males ranging mostly under the age of 25years. Both gender showed a high rate of using both the Physical and Online resources. For the physical facility the book was the resource ranked as the top resource type used among the students while for the online resources the eResource came out on top as the most used online resource which students used once or twice throughout the week. The overall level of satisfaction among both services indicated that majority of the international students were satisfied with the level of accessibility of materials, the availability of resources and the general services provided by the Humber College Library at the Lakeshore campus. Recommendations The overall feedback revealed that the international students in the Global Business Management Program were radically using the Humber Library services regularly both the physical facility and the online services, it’s no doubt that this was because a significant number of students were
  • 14. Running Head: LEVEL OF UTILZATION OF HUMBER LIBRARY Page 14 satisfied with the level of service and resources they were being offered. However, we would recommend that they provide faster working computers in the physical facility to aid them in carrying out research more efficiently and proposed increase in the number of copies of required text for courses would be appreciated due to the high cost for text books. Therefore, we encourage the Humber Library at the Lakeshore campus continue to offer good quality service and try to work on the areas of concern among the students.
