• Note: I left a lot of
space in the
schedule
• When you have
all online classes,
it is important to
build in time to be
flexible
17. Making Your Schedule Visible
Find the method that works for you
• It’s important to make your schedule visible
• Actually recording what you need to do can help motivate you
to do it
• You can use:
• Paper planner
• Your phone
• Organizational apps
18. Making Your Schedule Visible
Find the scale that works for you
• Semester
• Monthly
• Weekly
• Daily
19. Semester Schedule
• Great for finding trends in
your semester
• Can identify busy weeks and
plan ahead
• Unfortunately, you don’t have
a lot of detail about what is
happening each week/day
20. Weekly Schedule
• Has more detail than a
semester schedule
• Easier to see where you
have free time
• Can be overwhelming
• Can’t easily see what is
coming up next
21. Daily Schedule
• A daily schedule can be as
simple as a to-do list
• This is a great way to give your
day structure
• It can get overwhelming if you
schedule too many things in one
day
22. The Pomodoro Technique
Time management for the small scale
• Organize how you work
• Understand the task – break it into chunks (pomodoros)
• For each 25 minutes of intense focus, give yourself a 5 minute
break
• 25 minute session = 1 Pomodoro
• 1 Pomodoro = 5 minute break
• 4 Pomodoros (100 minutes) = 30 minute break
24. Action Plan
• An action plan is a way of taking a large task and breaking it up
into smaller, more manageable pieces
• You can action plan big projects, homework assignments,
study sessions, or anything else!
• When making your action plan, it is important to include
intermediate deadlines
• These deadlines can help prevent procrastinaion
25. Action Plan Your Study Plan
• Develop a study plan for you a class you have right now
• 1) Find two text sources (3/29)
• 2) Skim first and last chapters (3/31)
• 3) Take notes on one chapter (4/01)
• Include at least one campus or outside resource to help you
while you study
• What are some roadblocks you might run into?
26. Getting Organized
Find a good space
• Create a work space that is both physically and digitally
efficient
• Establish an organization system
• Clear and consistent file names
• Arrange files and papers in a way that makes sense
27. Folder: ENGL 101-03
Folder: Discussions Responses
Folder: Reading Assignments
Folder: Essays
Folder: Rough Drafts
Folder: Final Drafts
File: Christensen_Essay 1
File: Christensen_Essay 2
Taking a little time to organize
files well, can help you find things
more quickly in the future
29. Things To Keep In Mind
Why your time management needs to be flexible
• Priorities change
• Life happens
• A good plan can be improved
• Things don’t always go according to plan
• You might have extra time
• You might have less time
• Other people might need your help
How many of you included sleep? It should really be a priority
You gotta eat!
BREAKS!!!!
Pros and Cons
Can also look like your to-do list.
Keep it reasonable!
Sometimes I break up my to do list into smaller to do lists
We talked about goal setting last week, and we need time management to make sure that we can get our goals completed. Action planning is one form of time management
Part of time management is using your time effeciently! To do that, make sure you can find what you need
What are some times when things haven’t gone to plan?
What are some ways to handle those situations?
Time Management can be really overwhelming when you look at it from a really broad view.
Remember to be flexible and forgiving with yourself. Time management isn’t going to be perfect 100% of the time.
