1. Monday – Sight
This is the first day of a five day lesson plan about the five senses. This lesson is geared towards the
sense of sight. This is for a 2nd grade class of 12 girls and 13 boys. The class consists of 5 African
American, 1 Chinese, 3 Hispanic and 16 Caucasian. Of these 25 students there are 4 who suffer an
Attention Deficient Disorder. 20 of the students are on or above the 2nd grade reading level, while 5 are
below. The students are typically well behaved and interested in learning.
The students already have a clear understanding of how to use Web Quests, computers and typing
software, how to work in a group setting, researching on the internet, and copy write laws.
89% of the class is visual, hands on learners, while the remaining 11% are better with reading
instructions. They love working in a group setting and giving presentations. Some of them are poor test
takers but overall do well in the classroom setting. They do not prefer textbooks but would rather
participate in class discussions, visual learning tools, reading aloud, updated/live material, and
researching from the internet.
The class will have a 100% better understanding of sense of sight by the end of the day.
Assignments
Together the class will watch this sight video to get a better understanding of how the eye works.

Each student will receive a flower to do the flower color changing experiment. The students will see the
color change in each flower over the day. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y9hprlmck44
After the color of the flower changes, each student will elaborate and discuss why the flowers color
changed.
I will present the video and SmartBoard activity to the class through our SmartBoard. For the drawings, I
will place a poster of the eye for the class to draw at the front of the classroom. The Flower experiment
will begin at the beginning of the day so the students will be able to watch the colors change throughout
the day. I will provide the students with the flower, cup, water, and food coloring. Each student will have
the opportunity to come to the board and participate in the SmartBoard activity. All students are
2. required to keep quiet and pay attention during all activities. Every student is required to participate in
all of the assignments and activities.
At the end of the day I will ask the students to write a paragraph in their daily journals telling what they
enjoyed most and disliked most about the day. This will give me a better understanding of how to make
the lesson more enjoyable for next time.
