Time To Give Thanks
The semester is finally in full swing and sometimes it seems as though the work pile is
never relieved. It is during these stressful moments, when our work seems never-ending,
we might forget all that we have. We get lost in the daily drive, and sometimes just taking
a few moments to reflect on what we have can help allievate the stress around us. The
holidays are right around the corner, and what better time to keep in mind all that you
have in order to stay motivated.
1. Your Job- While at times it may seem that a job is the most stressful and overwhelming
part of life, we need to take the time to be thankful for this job. Not only does your job at
Lee University provide you with a source of
income, but it also is a job to be proud of.
With everything the staff works towards at
the University you are adding value to the
world and in the lives of the students in all that you do.
2. Faith, Hope and Love- Because these things are free, irreplaceable and the only things
that last a lifetime. Faith tells us that no matter what is ahead of us, God is there with us.
Without hope we would not have a reason to
wake up in the mornings. And lastly, without
the love from others we would not know what
it means to feel alive.
3. Seasons- Seasons stand for a time of
change, and that is something we can be
thankful for. If this season didn’t go as well as
you would have liked, there is still time to turn
a new leaf and prepare for the winter ahead. As seasons change we can all be thankful for
the opportunities that will present themselves, and the new experiences ahead of us.

Thanksgiving is not just turkey and mashed potatoes, it takes effort to get
those turkeys on the table. The American Automobile Association projects
that 43.4 million Americans will travel at least 50 miles from home this
upcoming Thanksgiving holiday. The United States Census Bureau
estimates that 117 million homes gather together on Thanksgiving, and
the average person consumes 4,500 calories on Thanksgiving. Here are
some more fun facts that you can bring to table this year to educate
friends and family on the details behind Thanksgiving.
24 Million people
will fly duirng the 12
day period around
Thanksgiving.
According to the
USDA, 242 million
turkeys were raised
in the United
States in 2013.
The First
Thanksgiving lasted
for three days.

“…they were unaware of it.” Luke 2:43
Mary and Joseph traveled to Jerusalem for the Feast of the Passover. Jesus was 12 years old. They
were evidently very distracted by the
excitement and business of the Feast. In fact,
Mary and Joseph began their return trip to
Nazareth only to realize well into the trip that
Jesus was not with them. It would be three
days before they would be reunited with their
12-year-old son. It caused quite a scare in
Mary and Joseph, and they reprimanded
Jesus for“wandering”off.
How can parents of the Son of God not know
their son is not in their presence? Yet this
story illustrates how each of us can become
so busy that we continue to operate not
realizing that Jesus is no longer with us.
Obviously, there was very little fellowship
taking place between Jesus and His parents
during the trip.
Are you experiencing daily, even moment-by-moment, fellowship with Jesus? If not, you will wake
up one day and realize Jesus is not with you in your endeavors. It may, like Mary and Joseph, create
a certain fear in you that you may have lost a very important relationship. Doing business without
Jesus’presence leaves us powerless and prone to live in fear. Jesus said He would never leave or
forsake His children. However, we can walk away from His fellowship by refusing to be with Him. Do
not let this happen to you. He longs to have daily fellowship with you because He loves you.

With Sunday football get-togethers, afterschool events and the holidays in motion, it’s likely you’ll be
hosting parties for friends and family very soon-- but parties don’t have to ruin your healthy holiday
eating goals.
Eat Well
To avoid sampling, chew sugarless gum while preparing
and serving food (or while putting away leftovers).
At your healthy dinner party, serve an hors d’oeuvres
tray with carrots, celery, broccoli and cauliflower — and
offer a low-fat dip in scooped-out red and green bell
peppers.
Move More
Get a good night’s sleep the day before your healthy
dinner party so you have the energy you need to enjoy
visiting with your guests.
Take your child or a pet for a quick 10-minute walk
before and after the party to burn additional calories.
During the party, keep busy by mingling with your
guests, playing games, taking pictures, or even turning
the radio up and dancing away some extra calories!
Love Life
Fill your buffet table with fresh flowers, fruits and
vegetables, and colored napkins. Light some scented
candles throughout the room to create a fun and
relaxing atmosphere.
Once the party begins, be sure to take the time to enjoy
the company of your close friends and family. After all
your hard work, you deserve it!
