Innovative programme aims to inspire the next generation of female creative leaders
The Legacy List, the independent charity for Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, is aiming to inspire the next generation of female creative leaders through an innovative new coaching programme.
The programme, elle (Emerging Legacy Leaders East), takes 13 women at the very outset of their careers based in east London’s cultural organisations including Bow Arts Trust, East London Dance, V&A Museum of Childhood and the William Morris Gallery (see Notes to Editors for full list of participants).
Forming the first ever network of elle associates, they will undertake an intensive seven month coaching programme devised by executive coaching specialists Leaders Lab and supported by Birkbeck, University of London, to develop a range of disciplines from building confidence and increasing assertiveness, to creating effective relationships with team members.
The associates will have opportunities to learn from inspirational experts in the creative sector, including Hilary Carty, an independent coach specialising in leadership development who previously headed up the Cultural Leadership Programme; Brenda Emmanus, BBC London’s Arts and Entertainment Correspondent; Vikki Heywood, Chair of the RSA; and Helen Marriage, Director of Artichoke, a creative company staging ambitious events in the public realm.
Claire Gevaux, Head of Creative Programmes, The Legacy List explained: “East London has long been a landscape in which powerful women have raised their voices, from the matchgirls strike in 1888 to Sylvia Pankhurst’s east London Federation of Suffragettes. We wanted to foster this spark and individuality in the next generation, to ensure that women from east London have the relevant skills to become the next generation of arts leaders, and make their mark on the capital. We’re
2. really excited to see what happens when these amazing women come together. The potential is enormous.”
