2. OBJECTIVE
To study the current working method
To identify the ergonomic issues available.
To develop new products/methods to improve working experience
as well as efficiency of working.
5. PRINCIPALS
Use of proper tools
Keep repetitive motions to a minimum
Avoid awkward postures
Use safe lifting procedures
Get proper rest
6. MUSCULOSKELETAL DISORDERS ?
Injuries of the
Muscles, tendons,
Nerves, ligaments,
joints, cartilage,
spinal discs.
MSD may result
from an
instantaneous or
acute event
Some MSDs are:
• Arthritis
• Myalgia
• Affecting the
soft tissues

9. PROBLEMS FOUND IN FOLLOWING DEPARTMENTS
Fabric
Inspection Finishing Sewing
10. FABRIC INSPECTION (PROBLEMS)
For loading and unloading the heavy weight fabric roll at the time of fabric inspection,
workers has to bend to lift the fabric roll for loading on inspection machine. Because of
bending and lifting the heavy weight causes many serious MSD’s in human beings.
11. MSD,s DUE TO ABOVE PROBLEMS
Serial No. Postures MSD
1 Bending Forward Back Injuries
(Sciatica)
Shoulder tendinitis
2 Kneeling Knee Injuries
12. SOLUTION
While unloading help of trolleys can be
taken.
By adding table on loading side for
keeping fabric rolls for loading by using
fork lifter and adding slant plank on front
side, so that once the inspection gets
over worker can directly slide the rolls
rather than lifting it and keeping down.
And then they can lift the rolls by using
fork lifter.
13. FINISHING (PROBLEMS)
The washed garments are dumped into the above aluminium container which was very
huge in size. Because of depth of the container, workers has to bend much for taking
out the garments from the container which can create major MSD’s.
14. MSD,s DUE TO ABOVE PROBLEMS
Serial No. Postures MSD
1 Bending Forward Back Injuries
(Sciatica),
Neck and head injuries
2 Hand stretching Shoulder tendinitis
15. SOLUTION
By adding spring and one more platform. Spring will be kept between upper and lower
platform. So the upper platform will become movable. Once we will put garments into it, it will
go down automatically as per weight increases and vice versa.
16. SEWING (PROBLEMS)
Trolley using for keeping cut parts are placed outside the work area.
Operator has to stretch their hand to the maximum limit and sometime it was hurting the
operators while stitching as they are moving their hands for taking cut parts from trolley.
All these problems can causes many MSD’s.
17. MSD,s DUE TO ABOVE PROBLEMS
Serial No. Postures MSD
1 Bending and turning posture Back Injuries
(Sciatica),
Neck injuries
2 Hand stretching Shoulder tendinitis, wrist and
elbow tendinitis, carpel tunnel
syndrome
18. SOLUTION
By adding the adjustable rods in
the table for keeping cut parts
instead of trolleys. It will cover
less space so that operator can
easily reach and take the cut
parts for stitching. As the rods
are adjustable, workers can
push the rods inside the table
when it is not in use.
19. CONCLUSION
The implementation of ergonomics in system design makes the system work better by
eliminating aspects of system functioning that are undesirable, uncontrolled or
unaccounted for:
1.Inefficiency
2.Fatigue
3.Accidents, injuries or errors
4.User Difficulties
5.Low Morale or Apathy
