This document discusses the concept of multiculturalism. It defines multiculturalism as comprising of different racial, ethnic, religious and cultural groups having equal rights. It notes that there are three types of multiculturalism - liberal, pluralist and compositional. • Comes Form Multi + Culture
• Multi = all diffrent racial group have diffrent right
• Culture = People belonging to diffrent race , ethinicites nationalities
language religion , class , gender , and mainfest same in value & behavouiral
pattern
• It is an amalgation of diffrent race , nationalities etc It’s view is people form diffrent
culture have a right language ; religion ; classes ; gender have equal rights
• Eg the 8th schedule of the constitution has a list of 22 offical language
• Phiku parikh is known as rethinking multiculturalism cultural diversity and political
thinking

3. • Political philosopher aspire to deal with the challenge proposed by the
multiculturalism but there is a deep disagreement which constitute a fair treatment .
• Multiculturalism is in the view that cultures ; races and ethinicites paticulary those of the
minority group deserve special acknowledgement of their diffrences within a dominant
and a paticular case
• The acknowledgement can take the form of recognition of contribution of the cultural
life of the political comunity as a whole ; a demand for the special protection under the
law for certain cultural or autonomus right of the governance for certain cultures
• Multiculturalism is both a rensponse to the fact of cultural pluralism in morden
democracies and a way of compenseating cultural group for past exclusion dicrimnation
and opression

4. Multicultarism as a challenge to liberal democracy .
• In liberal democracy all citizens should be treated equally under the law by abscrating
common identity of the citizens form the real to soial cultural and political and economic
position and identities of the real member of the socicety
• this lead to the homogenises of collective of citizens and assume a common political
culture
• However in the abstract views it grows other political sailent feature of the identity of
political subject that exceeded the catageory of citizens such as racce religion caste class
rose
• Although claiming the formal equality of the citizens the liberal democratic view leads to
underemphazies ways in which citizens are not interfer in the equality of the socicety

5. There are three types of the multiculturalism
• Liberal Multiculturalism - Individual are free to exercise their personal
choice and lead their private lives without any interfrence form the state .
• Pluralist Multiculturalism the term multiculturalism of values that other
posses living in a pluralistic culture means respecting all values of various
culture regardless of how diffrent they are
• Composition Multiculturalism :- this type of Multiculturalism term is the
result of cultural impact of globalization

6. Necessity Of Multi-culturalism
• multiculturalism reflects most basically a posotive endrosnment of comunal diversity
usually arising form racial ethinic & language diffrence as such multiculturalism is more a
distinctive political stance than a coherent and a political programe doctrine .
• Multiculturalism begins with the asumption that minority cultural group are disadvantage
in relation to majority as state political embeded in majority culture don’t take into an
account of culture and specific needs of the minority
• Multiculturalism theorist advanced two broad set of arguement in favour of communal
diversity
1) are based on benifit - for the human being that human being are culturally embeded and
derivie their understanding of the world and serve political identity form the culture
2) are based on the benifit of the socicety

7. • this lead to the idea of minority or multiculturalism right including the right to
respect for the culture and invally religious practice that may otherwise by
prohibited by loewer the regulation and the right to send recognition through
the preservation of symbol that can help in promotion of collective esteme .
• For socicety Multiculturalism bring the benifit of diversity a vibrancy and
richious that stems form the cultural interplay and encourage whereance and
the same respect for other culture and religion while at the same time
strengthening of specific right towards the minority

8. Minority right as a nation building right
• For protection and encouragement of multiculturalism , special constitution provision are
required for strong and democratic nation , right to ensure that all right of all group
paticularly minority group are protected
• the peacefully co-exsistence of minority with majority is how India define
multiculturalism
• Nation demographic dominiance religious cultural minority required special as it is
possible in democratic politics to convert a numerical majority into political power
through election
