2. ROMANTICISM
• This movement latest form the fall of Napoleon till the french-Persian
war.
• Prominent painters - Théodore Géricault, Eugène Delacroix, Honore
Daumier.
• The thought they laid and followed in their painting are aspects are
aspect like the sprinkline of colours, fantasy and pessionate
manifestation- are very significant in painting. The themes in the
paiting are consciention , they were generally based on pomes by
potes. Abandoninng religious and other traditions completely, people
started thinking in place of pure logic.
3. THEODORE GERICAULT
• He ha sbeen called the pioneer of French Roanticism. He had his
early eduatioin in paris in 1806 by brunett and Gorin.
• He was greatly influenced by Gross(horse illustration),
Michelangelo, Raphael(technique).
• he traveled to italy (1816 and Engaled (1802-22). Delacroix wax
grwatly impressed by his painting.
• Gericault had brought landscape of Binnington and Constable form
England, which made France aware of the British tremds of the
time.
• He was ill, died in 1824 (32 age).
4. The RAFT of The MEDUSA
• Raft of Medusa , Time- 1816, Place- Paris Salon
• The Raft of the Medusa by Théodore Géricault, currently housed in the
Louvre Museum, is regarded as a seminal work of French Romanticism.
• This Painting depicts a real event of the after shock of the wrecking of
the French navel vessel Medusa.
• Theodre is said to have visited hospital and morgues to study the
aspects of dead.
• This was an attack on classicism.
5. • it depicts the survivors of a shipwreck on a raft. People were dying of
hunger on this fleet. Gericault did not choose any ancient and noble
subject for this picture. Rather, he brought a horrific accident that
happend recently in his big picture. The tragedy of this gruesome
accident, hungrythirsty people, asdened by the death of their near
and dear ones, holding dead bodies and pieces in this picture. in fact,
by drawing this annoying detail, Gericault astonished the audience.
• Initially, this picture did not get nay support from the French
government. Art critics also did not give any positive response about
it. So being upset with all these thing , Gericalt took this picture to
Britain. The picture was a sensational success in Britain. However,
after the death of Gericault, it was agaigin importance in France.
6. STORY
•This enormous painting depicts thr aftermath of the 1816
desaster of the French Royal ship Medusa. This ship had left
the coast of Senegal. Due to the lack of boats, about 150
survivors made a large one to save their lives. The story of 13
days of struggle for the lives of the people aboard this fleet is
shown in the form of a scene in the picture.
•The many pepole lost their live due to terrible starvation of 13
days. The struggle to kill each other and eat each other. When
they were rescued at sea, only a handful remained.
