1. Pitch Analysis and Feedback:
There was not a lot of criticism given to the idea we had for our ‘Weeping Willows’ trailer which made
us think that most of our ideas were going to be accepted by the target audience. Some people said
that it was quite obvious that the film was inspired by ‘Friday the 13th’ which I thought was positive as
we had stated that our trailer was going to be inspired by “Friday the 13th”.
The similarities that have been included in our film trailer:
1. The location of our film trailer will most likely be taking place in the forests just like where the
film “Friday the 13th
” was set. In the opening scenes of “Friday the 13th
” you will be able to see
the characters go to the forest by car. This will not happen in our trailer. We will make the
teenagers walk to bring a sense of realism into the film because most the teenagers at the
specific age will not drive or have their own car to go to the forest.
2. The antagonist in “Friday the 13th
” usually wears a baggy ripped costume to represent his evil
identity to the audience. In the “Weeping Willows” trailer we will make the antagonist wear a
baggy black coat as the main costume to make him look big, strong and masculine we had
got these ideas from the people who took part in our pitch.
3. The director of this film “Friday the 13th
” (Sean S. Cunningham) has used some great camera
techniques which we will try and use as inspiration to make the trailer look more realistic and
to also make it give a much more professional touch to it. Some people said that the use of
‘point of view’ shots will make the trailer look more effective so we have decided to take this
into consideration when we make our trailer.
4. The idea of the antagonist hiding behind the trees watching his victims will be shown in our
trailer as we had got that idea as inspiration from watching the film “Friday the 13th
”. Using a
series of ‘point of view shots’ and ‘over the shoulder shots’ can make us feel how it is like to
be at the protagonists point of view and how it is like to be from the antagonists point of
view.
5. The “Friday the 13th
” trailer usually ends with a countdown which we will not use in our trailer
to make our trailer more unique. We will however be using strap lines to give an insight on
what the film will be like when they watch the trailer. Some of the people who took part in our
pitch said that they really liked the idea of seeing strap lines in horror films as it gives a flavour
about what the film will be like by showing a glimpse of the important scenes.
The overall pitch presentation has made us reconsider some of the ideas we had in the beginning as
we thought that it was going to be too similar to the existing media text “Friday the 13th”. The
atmosphere and the overall aesthetic of the film will be emphasised to make the film look different
amongst all the other slasher films. We want to give importance to the location of the film rather than
just the characters to make the narrative visually stand out. We hope to follow our conventions
successfully to scare the target audience and to achieve what we have aimed for from the overall
horror trailer which is to impress horror fans.
