2. Research Summary
• This research seeks to understand the relationship between
chronic kidney disease and low levels of glutathione
peroxidase 3. We hypothesized that patients with certain
stage of chronic kidney disease witnessing a deficiency in
glutathione peroxidase 3 (GPx-3) face a chance of uremic
cardiomyopathy. With this research we showed:
I. The function and role of the protein GPx-3;
II. Experimental data on western blots, chronical studies on
mouse, GPx-3 Elise to understand the protein; and
III. Further studies and limitations.
3. GPx-3
Also known as extracellular glutathione
peroxidase is a antioxidant that is made
in the basolateral compartment of the
kidney. It is transported to the systemic
circulation with functions in the plasma
and on circulating platelets.
4.
5. Methods
• Western blot to identify multiple
circulating proteins.
• Mouse studies to isolate the
exclusive effect of GPx-3.
• GPX-3 (human) Elisa Kit used for
in vitro quantitative
determination.
