1.Introduction:
1.1 Importance of copper:
Copper is very important metal in point of view of engineering. It is very useful metal for making alloys. Also wires are
made from copper. It is very important in electroplating industry and manufacture of dye. Some Copper compounds
are added to Fertilizers.
1.2 Copper Contamination in Environment:
Water is contaminated by copper milling, mining, electroplating industries, some petroleum industries and refineries.
Various industries like explosives, paints and dyes, pesticides contain copper in their effluent
2. Objectives and aim:
- Objective of this study is to remove copper from wastewater using most economic and environmentally effective
process of adsorption by natural adsorbent.
- To examine the capacity y & effectiveness for the natural adsorbent of copper to the wastewater.
- To study on the affecting factors for the copper removal by adsorption like pH, adsorption dosage, contact time,
temperature.
3. Problem specification:
Increase in the use of heavy metals over the past few years has resulted in an increased flux of metallic substance in aquatic
environment. Industrial effluent contains higher amount of heavy metals that can pollute the water bodies when it is
discharged to the nature. Toxic heavy metals directly effect in treatment of industrial effluent. Copper is one of the heavy
metal which is toxic for the living organisms and it is one of more widely spread heavy metal contaminants of the nature.
Extensive intake of Cu is toxic and also affects like vomiting, convulsions, cramps, or sometimes even death also.
4.ADSORPTION:
- This is the process where a solute (copper) is removed from the liquid phase (wastewater) through
contact with a solid adsorbent which has a particular affinity for that particular solute
- Adsorption is a very oldest well known purification technique, Adsorption studies were carried
out using a verity of adsorbents such as: Activated carbon, low cost adsorbents for, lignite,
chitosan, tire rubber ash also some natural adsorbent biomass, waste sludge, rice husk, sugarcane
bagasse ,coffee grounds, egg shell, modified nilgiri bark , equisetifolia bark etc.
5.Materials
MATERIALS:
- HCl & NaOH to maintain the suitable pH
-Atomic adsorption spectrometer
- Papaya seed powder
- Coffee grounds
- Activated Charcoal
6.EXPERIMENT:
1. First we take the industrial waste water sample and measure its initial copper ppm in the
laboratory. Atomic spectrophotometer equipment is must needed to find the copper ppm.
2. This is kit in which copper contain solution is put for measure its ppm. this kit is put inside the atomic
spectrophotometer.
7. Results
