Get to know Jyotin Shah, Information Systems Lead Central Europe
25 Mar 2015
The new IS Lead for Central Europe, Jyotin Shah, shares his thoughts on what it takes to be an Area IS Lead and what he's looking
forward to in the future. Jyotin has had many different roles within the company and has learned that staying close to the business
is what keeps him motivated.
Which roles have you held in the past? Which one had the biggest impact on you?
Over the past 15 years with Kraft and Mondelez I have gained experiences in Service Delivery, Systems Support, Project and
Program management and IS Strategy and Portfolio prioritization. The most enjoyable role was leading the Sales Force Automation
and Driver delivery Automation projects in North America. Working with the Sales team and getting closer to the action on the
front lines was a great experience and one that I will always remember. It brings you closer to the business and really makes you
understand that we are about selling great brands of Chocolate and Biscuits at the core of it.
How does it feel in your new role as IS lead?
It's certainly exciting to be in an Area IS role, especially for Central Europe as one of the biggest Area's in our business. Under Matthias Herzog's Leadership and
together with my IS colleagues, I am supporting Juergen Leisse and his teams in all IS matters. The beauty of that role is the variety of topics you get exposed to. It's a
really dynamic role and allows me to get closer to all areas of the business. The initial interaction with the CE leadership team has been very positive. They are full of
energy and have the perfect mindset of doing the right things for our people and for our brands.

2. What are the priorities for the next upcoming month?
As a strategic business partner, we are continuously committed to create value through best-in-class technology and process excellence. During this time of change it
is important that we continue to deliver on our huge agenda without disruption. Here are the IS Priorities for the CE Region:
1. Transformation Journey
Excel in business partnership and employee relationships during time of major change•
Transition to one IS operating model and simplify how we work•
Successfully implement Project Charger, Jerry, CE integration and MDLZ 2.0•
2. Operational Excellence
Ensure 24x7 key system availability and reliable IT services•
Win with continuous improvement projects•
3. Value Transformation
Focus the IS portfolio with harmonized systems and ways of working•
Realize saving opportunities and reinvest in MDLZ•
Enable adoption of global application standards, best-in-class technology & infrastructure•
What does it mean from an employee's perspective?
Being in the middle of the transformation journey and implementing the new operating model, we have an opportunity to step back and simplify how business
processes are run across the company and how IS can enable them. I see Information Systems as a means to "Unleash the Power of Our People" and to "Drive
Efficiency to Fuel Growth" by delivering cost-effective and high-quality IS enablers to the regions and functions. The IS priorities above have been defined with strong
input from and linkage to DACH, CE and global vision. I am counting on your support to achieve these plans and helping us drive the change, even if it means
making some tough decisions and challenging the way we work today.
What was the toughest decision you have had to make in your working life?
The really tough decisions tend to be personal and not work related. For my family one of the toughest decision was the move to Europe. We had fears of leaving
behind many friends and work colleagues we had spent several years with in Chicago along with many great memories. But we are happy that we took the
opportunity and have no regrets. I am thankful that Mondelez has provided us the opportunity to be an international family and we have made great friends along
the way.
What is your biggest strength and how can you use it to achieve these priorities and goals?

3. I have a strong drive for simplification and a keen understanding of business processes. My role over the next several months will be to enable and contribute to the
business change and ensure more collaboration across global and regional teams. With a very busy start of the year and challenging timelines ahead of us, we will be
on a roller coaster ride. However I am confident that with a dedicated team that is fully empowered to get us there, we will bring all round success.
What will you do this year to make MDLZ a great place to work?
For me a great place to work begins with a supportive manager and interesting work experiences with the right rewards. This year we have a big transformation
ahead of us and I can imagine having a leadership change in this environment is not ideal for a lot of team members but I will set the right example for the team by
being open and patient. We all need to be positive, empathetic and sincere to be successful this year.
How do you motivate yourself, do you have any life motto?
My life motto is "every day you learn something new" – this way, you open yourself up to growing and experiencing life from a very unique place. The changes and
lessons we are experiencing right now, will contribute to making MDLZ a better place to work by simplifying business processes, harmonizing our approaches and
ultimately generating sustainable value and savings that can be reinvested in our brands, our products and our people.
