Talking about Pictures
When you talk about pictures you describe what you see. You
can talk about shape, size, colour and movement; tell the
listener what you can see.
Activity A: Talking about Pictures
Have a close look at this picture of an accident. Imagine you are on the
telephone, telling your mum or dad all the things you see in the room.
Tell about:
• Where and when it happened.
• Who may have caused the mess.
• How it happened.
• What is broken or in danger.
• What you will do.
Check it out
When you have practised talking about the picture, tell a friend or adult
about the accident. When you have told them about the accident, show
them the picture.
Learning Outcome: Student
describes a picture clearly.

Saying What You Think
When you tell someone your opinion, you are saying what you
think.
Your opinion will probably be different from that of some of your friends.
For example:
You might say that The Simpsons is the best TV programme, but others
will have a different opinion.
Opinions are not the same as facts.
A fact is something that can be proven to be true.
An opinion is what someone thinks or believes.
The south pole is freezing cold – is a fact.
I like cold places – is an opinion.
Activity A: Fact or Opinion?
Read each sentence and decide if it’s fact or opinion. Circle either fact or
opinion.
Milk comes from cows fact opinion
Chocolate milk is yummy fact opinion
Big dogs are frightening fact opinion
Dogs have 4 legs fact opinion
Soccer is better than swimming fact opinion
There are 11 people in a soccer team fact opinion
Learning Outcome: Student understands
the difference between fact and opinion.

Activity B: Sharing Opinions
Read these opinions and decide if you agree with them.
1. Children should not have to do homework.
2. Watching TV is good for you.
3. Art at school is fun.
4. Meat tastes revolting.
Think of reasons to support your opinion for statements 1 to 4.
Read these opinions to a friend and see what they think. Sometimes
they will agree with you, other times they will have a different opinion.
I
believe human
beings should protect
lake environments for
