Duringthe 2010 and 2011 school years,I volunteeredwithanorganizationcalledMichigan826.
The goal of the organizationwastoprovide tutoringandextracurricularactivitiestodisadvantaged
students.InadditiontohavingalocationindowntownAnnArbor,theyalsopartneredwithschoolsto
provide in-house tutoringforthe convenience of students.Iwaspart of a groupof like-minded
volunteersthathelpedstrugglingstudentsatYpsilanti MiddleSchool. Iparticipatedonaweeklybasis
and wasresponsibleforgeneral science andmathtutoring.
From Januaryto May 2013, I engagedin studentteachingwithMrs.LisaBenton’s10th
grade
geophysical sciencescourse atHuronHighSchool,AnnArbor,Michigan.My dutiesincludedcreatingand
updatingcourse materials,facilitatinglaboratoryexercisesindependently,andinteractingwithstudents
all day everydayof the school week. Geophysical sciencescoverawide range of topicsincluding
physics,chemistry,weather,geology,andecology.Itservesasanintroduction forhigher-level courses,
such as APChemistryandAPPhysics.
Summerof 2014 I was hiredasa science advisertothe JimHollandSummerProgramatIndiana
University-Bloomington.Thisprogramistargetedatminorityhighschool studentsfromthe state of
Indianaforexperience inSTEMfields.Dutiesincludedprofessional advisingof studentsandassessment
of studentwork.Fromthisprogram,I gained valuable insightintothe hardworkingmindsetof these
students.Theirdedicationdespitechallengesof language andcircumstance made theirperformance all
the more commendable.

From 2013 to current school year,I have beenemployedbythe Kankakee ValleyHighSchool in
Wheatfield,Indiana.Ihave 2 yearsof experience teachinganatomyandphysiology,chemistry(fall
semesters),physics(wintersemesters),andbiology.Anatomyandphysiologyisanupper-level course
designed forstudentsinterestedin the medical field.Courseworkincludescomprehensiveoverviewof
the humanorgan systems,dissections,andlabsof myowndesign.Fall chemistryisdesignedforgeneral
studentswithemphasisonproblemsolvingandprinciplesof matter.Winterphysicsis designedasa
transitionfromfall chemistryandathird-yearscience course withheavieremphasisonscientific
mathematics.Biologyisafreshmancourse withfocusonscientificmethods,environmentalsystems,
and cell mechanics.
