James Trogdon announced as the 2016 OMLA Educator of the Year
The Ohio Middle Level Association is proud to announce James Trogdon as the 2016 Educator of the
Year. James was recognized and honored on January 26, 2016 at a schoolwide assembly at Coventry
Middle School.
In the nomination letter, James is described as being an advocate for his students and an educator who
brings his content to life through relevant work in the local community, the state, and internationally.
By giving students the opportunity to reach beyond the walls of his classroom, James engages students
in more than science. James has also worked to ensure that all students are safe, coordinating a “Safe
Space Program” and professional development for staff, make school welcoming to LGBT students.
Knowing his students before they even walk through his classroom door is key and Mr. Trogdon
prepares prior to the school year, examining students’ backgrounds and cumulative files. He uses that
information to connect students with needed community programming to ensure they come to school
ready to learn. James’ legacy will live on in his students because they know he cares and he is passionate
about experiential learning. We commend and honor the efforts of James Trogdon.

More than 9500 individuals are members of OMLA. Founded in 1973 by a group of middle level
educators, OMLA is the fastest growing professional organization in Ohio and has become the voice for
middle level education. OMLA’s principal purpose is to promote the middle level concept and provide a
medium for those involved with Ohio’s elementary, middle and junior high schools to share with one
another. We thank you for your commitment to middle level education and for your support and
involvement within the Ohio Middle Level Association.
