Jurgens Johannes Basson started his career as a teacher then became a
lecturer at Rand Afrikaans University. He started the RAU -Oracle Saturday
School of Mathematics Initiative in 2003 for previously disadvantaged
children from Soweto with a sponsorship from Oracle SA. During 2006 he
founded JB Consultants and travelled the entire South Africa to train and up-
skill teachers in almost every province. His passion for community work,
Mathematics and learners inspired him to obtain a sponsorship from Anglo
in 2010 to 2014 which he used to start a Saturday school in Hendrina and
Bankfontein in Mpumalanga. Every Saturday and during school holidays, he
and his team focus on the training of Educators and give extra lessons to
learners from the rural communities. This project was voted Community
Project of the Year in 2012 amongst all Coal Mining Houses and ended as
one of the top 15 projects in Anglo world-wide. Exxaro Arnot is the current
sponsor for a Saturday and holiday school for learners from the three schools
in Hendrina. They also sponsor teacher training for Middelburg circuit 2.
Jurgens was part of the panel that wrote the new CAPS Syllabus and he is
rated the best Mathematics Consultant in South Africa because of his rare
ability to train teachers in Mathematics at tertiary, primary and secondary
level and also to empower learners to achieve better marks. He is also used
extensively by all the different Education Departments to train Mathematics
teachers and learners country-wide in English and Afrikaans. Jurgens is the
co-author of the “Mind Action Series Mathematics Textbooks” that are
nationally approved by the Department of Basic Education and received the
highest ranking from the National Panel amongst all the Mathematics
textbooks.
JB Consultants design training solutions for clients, teachers, schools and
learners. All our training solutions are custom-designed to maximise the
impact of the training on our beneficiaries. We empower our beneficiaries to
ensure that the learning experience continues long after they have left the
classroom/boardroom.

This assists Teachers in referring to the content of the training programme
long after the completion of the programme. Thus, we provide Teachers with
the tools to continue on their own and become the best Teachers they can be.
Learner Development & Training
Focussing on Learners will not only help them achieve good results, but it
also eases the load of the teacher. Our learner programmes have been very
successful and in some cases we have achieved a 400% improvement in
year-end results. Through our learner programmes we have assisted in
improving the results of more than 10 000 Learners across South Africa to

School Management Coaching
The management of schools has a major impact on the school’s
performance. For this reason, JB Consultants has developed and
successfully implemented a hands-on coaching programme for School’s
Management Teams (SMT’s).
The coaching process enables Principals and their Management Teams to
manage their schools more professionally and efficiently. As a result Learner
and Teacher performance improves, results improve and all stakeholders are
proud of their school. When a school achieves excellent results, it has a
positively impact on the entire community.
