Lactofiltrum is a Class IIA medical device indicated for treatment of eczema and atopic dermatitis. It is a combination of an enterosorbent, lignin-hydrolysed dietary fiber, and the prebiotic lactulose. It works by targeting intestinal dysbiosis and toxins in the gut to positively impact the microbiome and immune system. Lactofiltrum normalizes the intestinal microflora through the enterosorbent lignin and prebiotic effect of lactulose.

Lactofiltrum
1. LACTOFUILTRUM is a Class IIA medical Device,
indicated for the treatment of eczema/atopic
dermatitis.
LACTOFILTRUM
is a unique combination of:
enterosorbent
lignin-hydrolysed (indigestible dietary fibre)
lactulose (prebiotic)
Targeting intestinal dysbiosis (normalization of
intestinal microflora) and disintoxication
2. With the knowledge of the GALT*/Immunomodulation/dysbiosis
linkage, AVVA developed Lactofiltrum.
The clinical performance of Lactofiltrum is based on its positive
impact on the intestinal microflora and absorption of intraluminal
toxins (enterosorbtion).
* Gut-associated lymphoid tissue
3. Lignin is a polymer of plant origin,
polysaccharide with developed
porous structure, obtained by the
acid hydrolysis of the wood.
It possesses a broad
adsorption spectrum over a
wide range of compounds and
complexes with various
molecular weights, from
endo- and exo-toxins with
high and medium molecular
weight to bacteria and its
metabolites.
Lignin is a natural enterosorbent with a high sorption activity, due
to its highly porous structure.
4. Short-chain fatty acids can influence immune modulation, due to their
ability to increase the production of IL-10 and
TGF-β1 which, being anti-inflammatory cytokines, play a key role in
reduction of allergen-induced response.
Lactulose (Galactofructose)
is a non-digestible oligosaccharide
that selectively stimulates normal
intestinal flora growth by the
exertion of its bifidogenic effect,
conferring benefits upon host’s gut
health.
Lactulose also stimulates synthesis of short-chain fatty acids by
Bifidobacteria and Lactobacilli.
5. With the knowledge of the
GALT/Immunomodulation/dysbiosis
linkage, AVVA developed Lactofiltrum.
The clinical performance of Lactofiltrum
is based on its positive impact on
intestinal microflora and absorption of
intraluminal toxins (enterosorbtion).
6. The development of clinical manifestations in
atopic children is called atopic march or atopic
cascade.
Atopic dermatitis (AD, atopic eczema, eczema) is a one of the clinical
manifestations of atopic disease, usually with childhood-onset.
Other atopic manifestations (rhinitis, asthma) begin as school age.
Clinically, it’s manifesting as an inflammatory
chronically relapsing skin condition, in which
periods of exacerbations are alternating with
remission of different degrees.
Currently, there are no laboratory or diagnostic tests for atopic eczema.
Therefore, AD might be considered an important
initial stage in allergic diseases development.
7. Itchy
Red
Dry
Swollen
Sore
And most commonly appearing on
elbows, backs of knees, face, often on
the cheeks, behind the ears, buttocks,
hands and feet
The diagnosis of atopic eczema is based on visual assessment, and
patient’s sensation and history.
Atopic eczema symptoms often appear as skin patches that can be:
The skin is dry, itching (pruritus) is the trait symptom, papulo-vesicular
lesions often progress to disturbing excoriations, and it’s substantially
affecting the quality of life of patients.
8. Due to its composition
(indigestible dietary fibres)
Lactofiltrum tablets are inert
pharmacologically
and after oral application they
pass through upper
gastrointestinal tract and
reach colon unchanged.

9. In colon, as a consequence of
bifidogenic activity of Lactulose,
Lactofiltrum tablets stimulate growth
and activity of intestinal normal flora,
providing by that positive
environment for immunostimulatory
function of normal flora.
That leads to suppression of the
bacteria translocation mechanisms,
decrease in number of
Еnterobacteriaceae, and to reduced
development of intraluminal and
systemic endotoxins.
10. Short-chain fatty acids can influence immune modulation, due to
their ability to increase the production of IL-10 and TGF-β1 which,
being anti-inflammatory cytokines, play a key role in reduction of
allergen-induced response.
Lignin hydrolysed, having a high sorption
capacity, binds and removes allergens,
mediators, products of allergic reaction,
metabolites, toxins, and active peroxide
compounds from intestine.
Lactulose also stimulates synthesis of
short-chain fatty acids by Bifidobacteria
and Lactobacilli.
11. LACTOFILTRUM offers unique double action
mechanism for normalizing intestinal microflora.
Lignin
Natural enterosorbent,
absorbs wide range of intestinal
pathogenic microorganisms along
with endo- and exogenous toxins
Lactulose
Improves growth and activity
of lactobacili and bifidobacteria
Restoring and normalizing
human intestinal microbiocenosis
13. The GUT MICROBIOTA consists of a complex community of
microorganism species that live in the digestive tract and is the largest
reservoir of microorganism mutual to humans.
They play a crucial role in immunity and metabolic function of the body
as well as from preventing allergies to carbohydrate fermentation.
14. DYSBIOSIS (DYSBACTERIOSIS) refers to microbial imbalance
ON or INSIDE the body, resulting to many conditions that
may be manifested due to disruption of normal regulatory
functions of a healthy GUT MICROBIOTA.

Contraindications:
•Individual intolerance to Lactofiltrum or its components;
•Acute stage of peptic (gastric) and duodenal ulcer;
•Intestinal bleeding;
•Colostomy, ileostomy, suspected appendicitis, ileus;

Indication: Atopic Dermatitis
Administration: Oral (previously grinded, if necessary for
convenience of application); 1 hour before meal and/or
administration of other medications.
Dosage:
Adults and children over 12 years: 2-3 tablets 3 times per day.
Children 8 to 12 years: 1-2- tablets. 3 times per day.
Children from 3 to 7 years: 1 tablet 3 times per day.
Children from 1 to 3 years: 1⁄2 tablet 3 times per day.
Recommended length of treatment is 2-3 weeks.
16. Interactions:
No direct interactions are known.
However, due to its sorption ability and capacity, Lactofiltrum
should be administered one hour before administration of any other
medication.
Safety precautions:
Prolonged use of enterosorbent (more than 21 days) can lead to
malabsorption of vitamins and minerals (e.g. calcium). Therefore,
prophylactic administration of multivitamins and calcium
supplements is recommended.
Side Effects:
Rarely - allergic reactions, constipation.
Adverse Events: Non reported
Pregnancy and lactation:
Data on the safety during pregnancy and lactation are not available.
