16. Commentary
• The body of work was inspired by Karl
Blossfeldt’s unique botanical images (a
German Photographer in the late 1800’s
and early 1900’s). Blossfeldts
compositions were very structured.
Throughout this homage series, I staged
symmetrical images that were black and
white. I used the most unique flowers/
plants I could find that fit this concept.
17. • White background contrasts with and privides
blank space that adds negative space. In
image #1, I kept true to the original
Blossfeldt vision by keeping it symmetric as
well as black and white. In image #11, I
utilized the blank space by adding a subject
on the two edges. The two plants are acting
as hands grabbing the empty space, drawing
you into the space as well as filling it.
