This document outlines a proposed project-based higher education model. Students work directly with accreditation boards formed of industry professionals to determine learning objectives. Students then design and implement projects to meet these objectives, guided by advisors and industry experts. Experts also conduct concept mastery interviews of students at milestones to confirm understanding and prevent dishonesty. Interviews are recorded and provided to potential employers along with students' project portfolios. This model allows students to specialize early in areas of interest while informing employers of character qualities not identified by standardized tests.
1. Just The Basics
...of a Project Based Higher Education Learning System
This education model is intended to be different.
You have been warned.
Any comments and feedback you care to provide would be deeply appreciated.
2. Let's start with a Accreditation Agency
providing the learning objectives
to our hypothetical educational institution.
3. Unlike traditional accreditation boards, this board
is formed of representatives from relevant
corporations and professional societies,
streamlining the process of determining learning
objectives for each occupational role.
4. Such a board will also enable compliant
educational institutions to claim that they have
the indirect approval of well known brands, such
as Ford, Microsoft, or Goldman Sachs, thereby
gaining quick credibility with the general public.
5. Anyway, where were we? Ah yes.
The institution then provides the learning
objectives from the accreditation board to each
student through academic advisors.
6. The student then designs and implements projects
to meet the LOs under the guidance of institutional
advisors and industry experts.
7. This deep personalization enables students to
begin specializing early and guarantees that all
learning material will be relevant to the student.
8. Industry Experts play an essential role in this
model. Not only do they provide students with
advice on what to specialize in...
9. ...but they also interview students at
predetermined milestones as a counter to
academic dishonesty.
10. These interviews are concept mastery tests,
designed to confirm that the student has a strong
understanding of their project and the concepts
behind it.
11. These interviews are recorded, summarized by
the Interviewing Expert, and stored, to be
provided to potential employers along with the
student's project portfolio and timeline.
12. This model allows students to specialize in what
interests them, to move at their own pace,
and...
13. ...informs potential employers of the
student's character qualities, the
characteristics that determine
culture fit and that no standardized
test can determine.
14. If you have questions, concerns, complaints... any
feedback at all really, please contact me.
