Amanzi Meters operates an accredited
SANAS verification lab and is currently
training additional verification officers. Its
water meters are NRCSapproved and the
strong meter body, manufactured from a
composite engineering material, ensures a
robust meter that can withstand extreme
weather conditions. Amanzi Meters also
designs and manufactures its own meter
boxes,ball valvesand components.
Smart residential expertise
Amanzi's products are focused on the res-
idential market and well suited for utilities
seeking automated metering, as well as
submetering of gated communities and
residential complexes. The Amanzi Meters
Smart System (AMSS) applies radio fre-
quency and GSMto communicate and read
meters remotely. Satellite communication
designed for the allocation of subsi-
dised water to indigent communities,
has now been upgraded with prepaid
capabilities. A unique, trickle-flow func-
tion is being patented. The AMR reader
is a cost-effective alternative to the iM-
vubu valve and can be wirelessly linked
to a display on the user's premises. Data
can be sent to the utility for monthly
billing, without the constraints of
the iMvubu.

Unlike the proximity meters used in a
walk-by, drive-by system, the AMSS is an
example of advanced metering infrastruc-
ture (AMI) and is an integrated system of
smart meters, communication networks
and data management systems, ena-
bling two-way communication between
utilities and customers. It uses bidirec-
tional, ultra-low-power radio networks,
integrated with GSM and/or satellite
to allow reading of meters as well as
the control of the iMvubu valve (open/
close/restrict) from a remote office.
The AMSS is a true AMI system, with
advanced functionality not requiring an
electricity connection. The AMSSoperates
in the ISM868 MHz licence-free bandwidth
and does not pose any
health hazards due
to electromagnetic
emissions. The long-
life battery can be
replaced in the field
to ensure an extended
lifespan of the equip-
ment. The system can
effectively be used for
credit control, meter
reading and billing,
service suspension and reconnection, as
well asleakdetection.
The iMvubu valve can be applied for
drought control in cases where water
restrictions are enforced. One residential
complex, where a pilot
project was im-
plemented since
November 2015,
has since reported
a 30% saving

Raufoss Water & Gas of Norway has
appointed Amanzi Meters as the sole
distributor of Isiflo Sprint couplings -
a suitable replacement for more
expensive brass fittings. eThekwini
Municipality is currently conducting a
pilot project with Isiflo fittings, yielding
positive test results. The success of this
pilot project will
lead to the local
manufacturing of
some of lslflo's com-
ponents, which will,
in turn, facilitate the
sale and distribution
of Amanzi Meters'
products in Europe.
Amanzi Meters
continues to make
inroads into Africa,
as it establishes itself as an exporter
with considerable opportunities being
considered in Africa, Europe and other
territories. The exponential growth
Amanzi is currently experiencing has
seen it relocate to larger, more upgrad-
ed premises to cope with increasing
demand for its products.
