In 1973, the Food
Bank began in a
200-square foot
garage and used
a 1962 truck that
was donated to the
organization.
Tony Collier, a cook at the Grandview Foundation in Pasadena,
began collecting and distributing food.
Collier received more food donations than anticipated and
decided to share food with organizations that helped the
hungry.

Backpack Program
This program ensures that children do not go hungry on the days they are not in school. Every Friday
during the school year, children receive a backpack full of food for the weekend. More than 2,600
backpacks per week are distributed.
After-School Meals
This program distributes food to 39 school centers,
boys and girls clubs, YMCA’s at an average of 2,800
meals each day.
