Title: Equipment Service Supervisor
I. DESCRIPTIVE SECTION
A. Function
The Equipment Service Supervisor performs varied duties including, but not limited to, inventory,
arranging for annual performance and maintenance checks, coordinate repairs and exchanges,
assess and submits facility work requests and tracks monthly expenditure related to repairs.
Supervises Equipment Service Workers. Monitors the operations of the Surgical Services tissue
bank. Coordinates major projects like renovations and installations.
B. Organizational Relationship
The Equipment Service Supervisor functions under the supervision of the Surgical Services
Perioperative Director and Director of Business Operations.
C. Work Activities
Equipment Maintenance - Maintains equipment including the records of location, use and
inventory.
1. Check for needed repairs of Surgical Services Equipment and arrange as necessary
shipment as needed
3. Participate in supply and capital inventory functions as requested.
4. Keep records of supplies/equipment sent to and borrowed from other areas within the
University of Illinois at Chicago Medical Center. Retrieve/return as necessary.
5. Keep records of supplies/equipment received from outside of University of Illinois at
Chicago Medical Center as assigned.
6. Remove reusable equipment from rooms and return to the Equipment Room for
cleaning and storage.
7. Change lights equipment as needed.
8. Put new equipment together as necessary.
9. Work with Surgical Services Procurement Specialists to call the appropriate vendor in for
equipment/repairs.
10. Check to see if OR beds are functional.
11. Coordinate with Steris in the maintenance of Steris Equipment.
12. Establish regular PM of Equipment.
13. Track Monthly expenditure of repairs
10. Set up isolation supplies and replenish as necessary.
11. Removal of equipment no longer in use.
Supervision of Equipment Service Workers- Perform annual reviews of workers and train on
new equipment.
1. Perform annual reviews.
2. Dictate specific assignments or duties.
3. Initiate disciplinary actions as needed.
4. Set up in-services on different equipment.

JOB DESCRIPTION
Title: Equipment Service Supervisor
Manage Tissue Bank- Monitor tissue inventory and maintenance equipment used for storage of
tissues.
1. Maintenance Temperature monitoring system. (REES)
2. Inform proper people of inventories of tissues.
3. Insure fridges and incubators are functioning properly.
4. Dispose of expired tissues.
Project Coordinator- Coordinate numerous projects that help increase efficiency, cleanliness
and aesthetic of the OR.
1. Installation and DE installation of new equipment (Video Integration, Surgical Lights).
2. Renovation of old structures (Wall tiles, Terrazzo).
II. ANALYSIS SECTION
A. Minimum Qualifications
1. One year of related experience.
2. High school graduation or equivalent.
B. Knowledge and Skills Required
1. Ability to organize and maintain established level of inventory supplies.
2. Ability to demonstrate accurate writing, reading, arithmetic and record keeping skills.
3. Ability to recognized malfunctioning equipment, order repairs and maintains unit
equipment.
4. Ability to verbalize a problem or need and to arrive at an acceptable solution.

E. Scope of Duties and Responsibilities
1. Complexity
The complexity of this position is comparable to other unit staff such as mangers and
supervisors
2. Effects on others
This position makes a significant contribution toward efficient, cost effective, and
appropriate direct patient care delivery by ensuring essential patient care supplies are
available as requested and unit and equipment is maintained in a working order.
F. Environmental Demands
Ability to stand and walk for prolonged periods, climb stairs, bend, stretch, lift, push, pull,
and have adequate (baseline) sensory functions: sight, smell, hearing and manual
dexterity.
Work may be performed in varied areas of the hospital such as patient care units,
operating rooms, recovery rooms, and surgicenter, pre-admission testing, materials
management, and receiving.
Duties may include exposure to contagious disease, radiation, anesthesia gases,
chemicals, caustic materials, mechanical devices and other hospital equipment including
sophisticated electronic equipment and hazards associated with their use.
