National Action Plan

I am choosing the American Medical Association. Their mission is to promote the art and
science of medicine and the betterment of public health (Steven J. Stack, MD). The American
Medical association has many goals. The AMA is one enterprise, highly capable, well-
coordinated and focused on high impact results (Steven J. Stack, MD). Another goal of the AMA
is that they believe that there is a national imperative to chart a successful course for health care
delivery that will improve the health of the nation (Steven J. Stack, MD). A third goal of The
AMA is that they embrace the need for change and believe physician leadership is critical to the
successful evolution of health care in a patient focused delivery system (Steven J. Stack, MD). A
fourth goal of the AMA is AMA will build on its legacy of leading physician ethics, setting
standards for medical education, and advancing medical science to serve as the premier voice for
the core values of the medical profession (Steven J. Stack, MD). The fifth goal of the AMA is
that they have the unique combination of talent with practical skills and intellectual capabilities,
the financial resources, and influential multi-sector relationships to be a leading voice in the
transformation of health care (Steven J. Stack, MD). They also aim to improve health outcomes,
Accelerate change in medical education, and enhance physician satisfaction and practice
sustainability by shaping delivery and payment models.
Throughout 2012, The AMA made great strides in restoring Physicians the joy of
working with medicine again. They did so by working to take the hassles out of the practice
environment and enable physicians to spend their time doing what they do best—caring for
2. patients (Steven J. Stack, MD). They did so by partnering with state and specialty medical
societies, by listening and responding to physicians, by leading grassroots efforts to appropriately
shape and advance sound legislation, and attracting leading researchers to share their
groundbreaking medical findings through our new and engaging resource, The JAMA Network®
(Steven J. Stack, MD). In my findings I could not really pinpoint any good ways that the AMA is
communicating their ideas. I can only assume that the way they are doing it is by patient
physician communication and by their goals and mission they have said through their website.
In conclusion, the AMA seems like a very good agency to help patients with Health
literacy and advocacy. Their Goals seem to be attainable and realistic. By what I read in the
website, they seemed to meet one of their goals and that was bring back physicians joy in
working with medicine. So their plan seems to be working.
